Author gets in his own way

It is an interesting sci fi story smothered by technobabble and purple prose. The author really wants you to know he’s the smartest guy in the room.

uniquely creative & presented for better or worse

tough one to review. while some of the concepts and ideas presented in this book are rather brilliant and will stick with me, it is told through the lens of a riddle being read through smoke. it almost lost me right off the get go because of the lack of cohesion in the story. after I realized that the story is delivered in bits and pieces throughout the book with little pattern of delivery then I could appreciate it more. definitely a ton of big concepts and philosophy on reality, fate, existence, etc to make your brain work hard. felt like if I stopped paying attention for even a sentence I would miss something incredibly important to the plot which made for a very concentrated listen. I think this is one that would need multiple reads to really pay off, though I don't think I have the stamina for a second attempt. still, the situation and characters were interesting and not often you find a scenario combining vampires, cyborgs, ai, personality disorders, etc into one plot line. I also found the narration a bit mopey, as if the whole book was being read by Eeyore from winni the pooh. everything sounded depressed and very ho-hum which worked at times but not for the whole book. if your looking for a thinking person's Sci fi, this might be for you.

anti-human garbage

can't call a book good when the fundamental premise is stupid. peter's ideas would hold more weight if the characters were actually representative of people and human consciousness instead of vapid, intellectually lazy strawmen to support his 2edgy4u "consciousness is overrated" thesis.

narrator does a fantastic job, though. and if it weren't for his varied performance that captures the tone of the characters as well as the story, i wouldn't have been able to finish it.

Pretty good, not great.

Title says it all for me.

Another book where they changed the artwork years after I bought the book. Not cool.

Hard read but worth it

Really interesting ideas, and great characters. It is not a read in one sitting book, but still a great sci fi book
