Publisher's Summary

Watch for the signs! What signs these shall be, I say unto you: first the earth will flow with the blood of Aen Seidhe, the Blood of Elves....

For over a century, humans, dwarves, gnomes, and elves have lived together in relative peace. But times have changed, the uneasy peace is over, and now the races are fighting once again. The only good elf, it seems, is a dead elf.

Geralt of Rivia, the cunning assassin known as The Witcher, has been waiting for the birth of a prophesied child. This child has the power to change the world - for good, or for evil.

As the threat of war hangs over the land and the child is hunted for her extraordinary powers, it will become Geralt's responsibility to protect them all - and the Witcher never accepts defeat.

Following The Last Wish, Blood of Elves is the new novel starring Geralt of Rivia, the inspiration for the critically acclaimed videogame The Witcher.

It might've been because of the translation

I found large portions of this book just dumps of exposition and dialogue that felt like it was boring people in cardboard box of a room. Other times the dialogue enhanced and described the motions with out the middle descriptive sentences masterfully. I just wish it occasionally moved a little faster.

It really is a good book and performance.

I agree with some reviewers criticism that very little happens in this book, but it still manages to be entertaining. The narrator is absolutely incredible. Super dynamic and engaging with great and versatile voice. Those complaining about how fast he reads need to try the speed control. I listen to most books at 1.2-1.3 speed and have to put this to 1, so if you usually leave the speed alone try 0.8 or so.

A good start into the Witcher's world

The world of the Witcher is mature and interesting. The racial tension and political intrigue are a welcome mix, adding human monsters to the otherworldly. The only issue I have is that there isn't enough depth into the Witcher's world - there is a lot of interesting potential, as the third game showed, in Geralt's character as well as those around him.

Good, but a product of it's time.

I first got into this universe with the Witcher 3, like most people. But I decided since I didn't want spoilers, and I wanted to actually know what was going on, I'd read the books first. So I tried them, and while they're good, the series is a product of the times. The book gaslights you, the style is bland, and the narrator conveys no emotion. That's fine, but in the book itself nothing... happens. Like the most interesting thing to occur is an alley fight and even then Geralt just kills them all and moves on. I get that this series has a large following, but thank god for the Netflix series, or I would've stopped with this all together.

Awesome

I loved listening to this book. I was introduced to The Witcher by son as he plays the game and I found it very intriguing. Peter Kenny does a fantastic job narrating as I find that I can totally distinguish the difference in the characters. That is why I have given it 5 stars all around.
