Publisher's Summary

An instant #1 New York Times bestseller!

“Deonn expertly weaves together a universe that both shines a light on the pervasive nature of racism and also harnesses the complexity of Black identity within this space. Deonn writes so much more than simple fantasies or Arthurian retellings.” —Booklist (starred review)

The “worthy successor to an explosive debut” (Kirkus Reviews)—the New York Times bestselling and award-winning Legendborn—perfect for fans of Cassandra Clare and Margaret Rogerson!

The shadows have risen, and the line is law.

All Bree wanted was to uncover the truth behind her mother’s death. So she infiltrated the Legendborn Order, a secret society descended from King Arthur’s knights—only to discover her own ancestral power. Now, Bree has become someone new:

A Medium. A Bloodcrafter. A Scion.

But the ancient war between demons and the Order is rising to a deadly peak. And Nick, the Legendborn boy Bree fell in love with, has been kidnapped.

Bree wants to fight, but the Regents who rule the Order won’t let her. To them, she is an unknown girl with unheard-of power, and as the living anchor for the spell that preserves the Legendborn cycle, she must be protected.

When the Regents reveal they will do whatever it takes to hide the war, Bree and her friends must go on the run to rescue Nick themselves. But enemies are everywhere, Bree’s powers are unpredictable and dangerous, and she can’t escape her growing attraction to Selwyn, the mage sworn to protect Nick until death.

If Bree has any hope of saving herself and the people she loves, she must learn to control her powers from the ancestors who wielded them first—without losing herself in the process.

This paperback edition of Bloodmarked contains bonus content from William’s POV featuring never-before-seen scenes from Legendborn and Bloodmarked and a teaser to the explosive third book in the Legendborn Cycle, Oathbound.

What the critics say

"Fans of the first novel will enjoy continuing Bree's story with Abbott-Pratt's skilled narration. Her engrossing narration and distinct voices for the multitude of characters and their accents keep the listener engaged in the adventures of Bree and her companions." (Melissa Wheelock)

What a journey!

Absolutely love the second part of this trilogy, the story telling had me immediately recaptured into the narrative and the tension was fantastic throughout! Wonderful voice acting by Abbott-Pratt.

I'm not upset this time (spoilers)

At the end of LegendBorn I was mad. It ended too short and left me anxious for more. 16 months later. I have finished book 2 in the series and while it's a cliff hanger. It's one I enjoyed and look forward to the next one. But I don't need it right this second.

Tracy Deonns writing is once again flabbergasting. The emotion and colour and feel of the story. It hits and hurts and warms the soul all at once.

The scene that tore at me the most was when Bree got to meet her mother. I was almost in tears that she got to see her again. Talk to her and get one last hug. That idea of a last hug means so much to me for personal reasons and she nailed that weight that importance. Then shortly after having her ancestor recognize the plantation and realize that it "this belongs to us" again I was nearly in tears. This is not for me. I am a white male in my mid 30s. But I FELT it. It felt so relieved so proud so happy. I just. I couldn't not feel it.

While I do love the vast majority of the story. I'm not a big fan of the love triangle between Cel, Bree, and Nick. The only part of it that feels interesting to me is that neither of the boys are "you need to make a choice" it almost feels like they are working to a thruple. Which if that is how this plays out I will 100% retract this part of my review.

The dragon armor sounded so damn COOL. Omg do I want to see that. The fire the power the beauty! Just wow. But that falls in line with how Deonn writes. Her detail is perfect. It's never too much that it gets boring and never too little that I can't picture it.

I figured the shadow king wanted his crown back once it was mentioned. But I thought the bloodmark was going to be how he got it. He could demand 1 thing and I thought that was going to be the crown especially when Authur took over. I was excitedly awaiting how distraught Authur would be over this. I thought he'd feel betrayed and "leave" but really just turn around to pout in Camelot.

I'm glad the story went in a different direction and I really look forward to the next book when ever it comes out.

Dnf, not for me.

I’m sorry but lark’s Irish accent (I think it’s supposed to be Irish?) is awful. Literally painful to listen to… I don’t understand why narrators use accents they can’t do well…
