One of People’s Best Books to Read in February

A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha Werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love, Theoretically and The Love Hypothesis.

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast—again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange—again...

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It’s clear from the way he tracks Misery’s every movement that he doesn’t trust her. If only he knew how right he was….

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf.

My first vampire fantasy type novel and was hooked from the beginning. Annoying towards the end. But good finish

Different but in a good way

To be clear, I liked this book and bought the sequel. So if you want a yes or no: Hell Yes.

The characters have chemistry and banter. Both FMC and MMC have actual personalities that work both separately and together. They have and form meaningful relationships with other characters. They focus on consent in a way thats refreshing and adds to the sexy vibe of the story.

THE HILL I DIE ON (Spoilers):

Mans is lying to her THE WHOLE TIME about them being mates because he "doesn't want to control her"??? 😒 🙄 😤 For someone who cares about consent, he certainly doesn't mind gaslighting the hell out of her and dumping her the MOMENT they finally have sex.

Its lazy drama. It doesn't really impact the plot that much and MMC says some really mean stuff thats totally out of character and then absolutely gets away without apologizing. Disappointing when the rest of the writing was witty and sweet.

I would still definitely recommend it as a cute lil romance, but brace yourself for Male Audacity that doesn't even manage to be "I was protecting you" sexy.

Still excited about the next one though🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Very Sweet, a Little Frustrating

I LOVED IT!

I didn't really know what to expect, but I am so glad I gave it a shot; I really liked how the Vampyres, Werewolves, and humans know of each other.

I thought it was a unique spin on this type of paranormal world. I definitely predicted a few things but that didn't really bother me too much because the characters really are lovely. And I was rooting for Misery right from the beginning.

I didn't predict the ending like at all, that threw me for a little bit of a loop but I do love how it turned out. I can see we might be getting more books in this world, and I am here for it!

LOVED the narration, Therese is completely a favourite, she really does give a unique voice to all the characters, and I love it. Will Damron wasn't really featured, but for small snippets, and that's fine.
