About this listen
Audie Award Nominee, Solo Narration - Female, 2013
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history. Beautifully written and utterly moving, Call the Midwife will touch the hearts of anyone who is, and everyone who has, a mother.

A memoir that centers midwifery and so much more
Highly recommend for anyone who likes memoirs. I enjoyed listening to the incredible range of the accents & characters voices by the narrator. Such an interesting memoir that centered midwifery and the authors experiences of the profession including the people/patients on whom the memoir focuses.

One of my Favorite Series
This trilogy is a classic favorite. Nicola Barber is wonderful and give voice and life to endless characters from the east end. Jennifer Worth paints a beautiful picture of love, joy, and pain during a time long gone. These stories are informative as well as entertaining.

the history behind Midwives and their beginnings and purpose.
Loved it all, Amazed at how without the midwives so many would have perished in childbirth.

Beautiful
Memoirs of a Midwife, working with families in the gritty, impoverished derelict tenement housing of post war London. This is the story of a nurse trained in helping to safely bring forth the babies of London’s baby boom’. It’s the true story of one woman’s journey to find faith and trust in God’s omnipotent power, in the circle of life of a harsh and seemingly impossible existence.
This is the beautiful recollections of Jennifer Wirth, a pretty and young Midwife, full of life and devotion to her calling during her stay in an East-end nunnery. Safely guided by the Anglican Sisters, she is taught humility and the Love of her fellow human beings while working in some of the most difficult situations brought on by England’s fight for liberty and the toll it took on her people. An excellent book. An excellent series on television. I love it and so will you. Ten stars!

Interesting stories
I did enjoy this book. At times I could not wait for it to end. It just depended on which story was being told. The narrator is definitely an acquired taste. Her spoken voice is clear. I found it too prim with a tendency to whisper on the important parts.
