Publisher's Summary

READ BY JOSHUA JACKSON AND EMILY ELLET! Fate brings together a ballet teacher and a hockey player in this big-hearted novel about second chances and taking risks by the bestselling author Entertainment Weekly calls the “master of witty banter.”

Once upon a time teenage Aurora Evans met a hockey player at the Mall of America. He was from Canada. And soon, he was the perfect fake boyfriend, a get-out-of-jail-free card for all kinds of sticky situations. I can't go to prom. I'm going to be visiting my boyfriend in Canada. He was just what she needed to cover her social awkwardness. He never had to know. It wasn't like she was ever going to see him again...

Years later, Aurora is teaching kids’ dance classes and battling panic and eating disorders—souvenirs from her failed ballet career—when pro hockey player Mike Martin walks in with his daughter. Mike’s honesty about his struggles with widowhood helps Aurora confront some of her own demons, and the two forge an unlikely friendship. There’s just one problem: Mike is the boy she spent years pretending was her “Canadian boyfriend.”

The longer she keeps her secret, the more she knows it will shatter the trust between them. But to have the life she wants, she needs to tackle the most important thing of all—believing in herself.

Not your typical romance...

CANADIAN BOYFRIEND is a character driven “realistic” romance that is easy on the smut but goes hard on some other topics (mental health, grief and loss.)

It’s definitely not your typical romance but I loved it all the same. The audio was perfection and my 13 year old self was jumping for joy that Joshua Jackson was part of it! 🍁

Also, duets need to be the standard for audios going forward. Seriously!

Sweet but slow burn

It was a very sweet story touching on some heavy issues. But the story was slow burning, not many peaks or valleys. Performance was great though

A story of life after grief

Joshua Jackson as the voice of the Canadian Boyfriend brought back some major Charlie Conway flashbacks from Mighty Ducks.
The story was sweet and often more about grief, therapy and healing than it was about two people falling in love.

A surprisingly good read

I enjoyed very much this book.

The story was nice, both main characters were endearing, Each had its own problems and I appreciated that both struggled and grew through the book.

The fact that there were two narrators, and that at times there were dialogues where both narrators were present prevented the sometimes very bad experience of having a man reading the woman's text and the woman reading the man's text and making the listener cringe, if not abandoning the book. Both narrators were good, but I found Joshua Jackson exceptionnaly good.

A Wonderful Romance that Explores Grief

This book was an absolute delight. Don't let the cartoon cover fool you it deals with some heavy topics including overcoming grief of a spouse, but Aurora and Mike were such a lovely couple and had great chemistry. Plus I loved all of the Canadian elements in it, including butter tarts and nanimo bars.

I listened to the audiobook and both narrators Joshua Jackson and Emily Ellet were wonderful narrators. I highly recommend this book.
