Publisher's Summary

An Astra Militarum novel.

Colonel Haskell 'Hell Fist' Aldalon and the Catachan 57th Jungle Fighters arrive on Gondwa VI, a world ravaged by greenskins. The Catachans prepare to go on the offensive, but can they retake a vital outpost when saddled with the barely-trained Trooper Torvin—the last survivor of the Skadi Second Infantry?

Listen to it because....

Get up close and personal with the ruthless Catachan Jungle Fighters as they prepare to give up everything in order to claim victory.

The story:

When Colonel Haskell 'Hell Fist' Aldalon and the Catachan 57th Jungle Fighters arrive on the quagmire world of Gondwa VI, they find it locked in the grip of an ever-growing greenskin threat. Rather than shoring up the meagre existing defences, the Catachans elect to go on the offensive and retake the strategically vital Outpost Four. In the process, they are saddled with the sole survivor of the outpost's fall—the barely trained Trooper Torvin, of the Skadi Second Infantry.

As the Astra Militarum clash with savage orks and Colonel Aldalon comes to terms with the cost of victory, Torvin finds himself under suspicion of cowardice by the Jungle Fighters. The young trooper's new comrades may be just as dangerous to him as the xenos marauders...unless, that is, he can pass through this trial by fire and earn the respect of the Catachan Devils.

Great intro to Catachans and Orks 👌

To be aggressive or sneaky.. that is the question. Reads just like an 80’s action movie.

Did you like Fury? Its basically Fury

its a little bit of a trope to have a new recruit fall in with a group of hardened veterans but its done very well. The Catachans are fun without being absurdly over the top hoorah action movie caricatures.

The real standout though is one of the secondary POV characters, a bloodaxe ork commando, who really helps illustrate the difference between brutal but kunnin, and kunnin but brutal.

felt like a movie

and I mean this in a good way, the characters are entertaining as well as relatable in certain ways. the catichan jungle fighters are hilariously over competent for humans , but written in a way that almost feels believable. the original MC grows very quickly but I guess that's more fitting when surviving your first battle makes you a veteran. if you like a down to Earth style of writing inside your Warhammer universe I would say look no further than this

Was Incredibly Impressed

Wanted to read some Catchan and ended up getting more. This book is Catchan/Ork 50/50 and done so well. I just finished 3 ork books, for which I love, and this was an unexpected primer to them. Ghazghkull Gut Stomper. Not sure it's the same guy I'm painting, but this is worthy. Such a surprise. (quiet waaagh... It's a jungle)

Fantastic 40k book

I absolutely loved this book! The start was a bit slow showing the incompetence of random guard units to set up for the Catachans but after they show up the book really picks up the pace. The narration was fantastic as well.

Excellent book, could have been longer.

I would have preferred more character development for the main character before their arc was complete, however the story manages to effectively develop 2 major plots simultaneously. Both plots are interesting in their own rights, and the orc plot brings up good points that should be developed more in a separate book. This was all performed extremely well. Overall, worth the listen.
