In the remote, rugged corner of Montana’s Glacier National Park known as the Devil’s Grasp, little Paige Baker of San Francisco disappears with her dog, Kobee, while on a camping trip with her family; or so her mother and father have told authorities. A multiagency task force launches a massive search as Paige fights to survive in the wilderness. Time hammers against her, and soon the nation is gripped by the life-and-death drama. Secretly, behind the scenes, the FBI grows suspicious of Paige’s parents. Their recent history and disturbing evidence links them to a horrible secret from the past.

A real literal cliffhanger!

Another great book by Mofina and super narration by Rummel. This is the 3rd book now from the series that has been a delightful rollercoaster to ride.

Awesome, suspenseful and thrilling.

This was an awesome story, well performed. I can understand someone being upset at “victimizing the victims”, but as a victim who was also victimized all I can say is, that’s life. It happens.

Best book I have read for a long time.

This book was so good. A definite cliff hanger. I enjoyed every minute that I listened to it. Couldn’t stop until it was done.

Pretty good overall with a few issues

Definitely some good cliffhangers weaved into this story - I’m a sucker for thrillers that take place in the wilderness. My two issues were - too many characters to keep track of, so I found myself just zoning out a bit because I was confused as to who the “ new person” was- but overall I could follow it. Secondly, the lack of contractions got irritating for me after a while “ I can not do this” instead of “can’t “ etc .. probably easier to deal with while reading the comments physical book- but it got annoying for me near the end. I wouldn’t not recommend this book.

Another great one!

This is the 2nd book in the Tom Reed & Walt Sydowski series. It's a great one! It starts with a couple and their daughter taking a holiday in Glacier National Park, Montana, where the mother is determined to work through some trauma she has held since childhood. The daughter goes missing in the vast mountains where bears are commonly seen. Since the family is from San Francisco, Reed, a journalist, and Sydowski a detective, go to Montana to cover the story of the missing girl.

Enter the drama of a man on death row in the same area. He's due for execution that same week but at the 11th hour he tells his lawyer he's innocent and wants to tell his story, which also takes place in the mountains of the same park.

The two plots come together, driven by so much suspense and action.

The narrator, Christian Rummel, is the same narrator for the first book (and for the whole series). He was great!

I liked the story and pacing. There was no dead air or slow moments. I did find the mother, Emily, particularly annoying but I admit it's probably a realistic portrayal of any mother in this kind of distress. I do wish there was more interaction between Reed and Sydowski, but I suppose that would be unrealistic.

Author, Rick Mofina, does such a great job of establishing the characters and eliciting empathy from the reader very quickly. I had developed strong feelings for all characters, right away.

The ending was very satisfying. I really had no idea how it would end, although I was hoping for a happy ending.

I love this series! Onto book #3.

Canadians love plausible, happy endings!

I can't give too much away, but, setting being the Alberta-Montana border--I was thrilled to be traveling along with this favourite author. How fortunate we are to be able to enjoy it from Audible for this snatch of time and experience the familiar landmarks from far away. Rick, you have researched this setting own to the teeth! May my little girl come home soon too, Rick. I love that in your stories, the families and especially the children, all come home after long last, to where the deer and the antelope play! The "moving to California" part is not bloody likely, no matter how lovely the West Coast is--may it roast!

I liked it.

After listening to the first Walt and Tom story, I jumped straight into this one. I enjoyed this one more than "If Angel's Fall". I am going to take a break but "Blood of Others" is already in my library and likely won't go unfinished for long.

If you really want acliff-hanger...

This one qualifies. During the story I probably experienced every emotion imaginable. I chuckled and held my breath and couldn't put it down.
