Story
Arthur Leywin knew well the cold terror of war. Yet, in his past life as King Grey, he had never lost a friend, mentor, or loved one; he had none to lose. Now, though, Arthur must accept that even those closest to him must take up arms to defend their homes as the enemy force seeks new methods to strike at the heart of Dicathen. In his quest to stop the approaching army, Arthur must travel to the dwarven kingdom of Darv, gain mastery of the four elements, battle some of the Vritra’s mightiest champions, and overcome a grievous betrayal.

The Beginning After the End: Publisher's Pack 2 contains books 3 and 4 of The Beginning After the End series, Beckoning Fates and Horizon's Edge. Though Arthur Leywin would like nothing more than to pursue his studies at the esteemed Xyrus Academy, where he hopes to push his already potent magical abilities to new plateaus and perhaps discover something more about his reincarnation into this world, he finds the politics of the school’s halls even more challenging to navigate than those of the council chambers he once inhabited as King Grey.

Arthur Leywin has experienced two lifetimes of challenge and adventure. He has lived as a swordsman, a mage, an adventurer, and a king. Now his two lives, old and new, will collide, revealing the connection between King Grey and Arthur Leywin, but at what cost? How will this affect the ongoing war between the nations of Alacrya and Dicathen? Enemy forces threaten the coastal cities, the elven forests, and the fortified mountain passes. Dicathen’s most powerful allies have vanished, and the military alliance between men, elves, and dwarves threatens collapse.

Story
I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Story
Arthur Leywin may have survived the Relictombs, but he immediately finds himself embroiled in something far more complex and dangerous: Alacryan politics. Accused of crimes he didn’t commit, Arthur is forced to defend himself without drawing the attention of his most powerful enemies. He quickly discovers that the best place to hide may be in plain sight as he continues his quest for the power to control Fate itself. It is a race against time, however, as the greatest threat of the war so far closes in on Arthur’s loved ones in Dicathen.

Publisher's Summary
I never had any memories of family in my old world. Growing up in an environment where no one truly loved me - and, in turn, being callous and distant to everyone - made me an unrivaled fighter, but a crappy person. When I came to this world, my new parents taught me something I'd never known. I may not be the strongest fighter or mage in this world, but I'm a hell of a lot better person now than I ever would've been in my previous life.
In order to protect his loved ones, the mage Arthur Leywin must reveal the truth of his identity. If he is to fulfill his role in the war between the godlike asuras and the demonic Vritra, he must leave those he hopes to protect and travel to the land of deities and dragons.
First, however, he must escape. Arthur stands before the kings and queens of Dicathen, accused of a crime he did not commit. It will take an act of the gods to save him from having his magic stripped away, leaving him powerless in the war to come. Fortunately for Arthur, he can count the gods among his friends.

kinda boring
This books first half is soooo boring. Its basically all training and info dumps. Arthur is the only pov and the side cast are not nearly as enjoyable as previous books. All the good characters like tessia, veran, the dispensary committee or his buddy that got kidnapped are absent. The second half is better and there are more characters but it doesn't make up for the earlier flaws.

Nothing happens
Story in this particular book pales in comparison to the prequels. Nothing significant happens and they somehow stretch a training montage of the main character out to 8 hours. The last hour is the only thing of any significance.

Half a book
Firstly, I'd like to say that I am a large fan of this series and will continue listening in the future. That being said, the pacing and "climax" of this entry into the series left much to be desired.
The good:
The writing is just as good as the rest of the series. In fact, characters that are the focus for any length of time feel more relatable and fleshed out than in previous books. Travis also gives an amazing performance as usual.
The bad:
A majority of the book is a training arc that never gives a payoff, or has what would have been the payoff happen off screen. After that is almost 2 hours of side character perspectives and chapters that reiterate what other chapters covered but from someone elses perspective. In each of these cases, one perspective would have been enough to get the point across. Then there's a cliff hanger. That sums up atleast 95% of the plot.
Summary:
The book is all build up with no pay off, seeming more like the first half of a book. I would wait untill the next entry comes out and listen to both at once.

only half of this book is important the other half
only half of this book is important the other half is nothing but a filler this book should have been combined with book 6 because as it is right now it's not even a book it's half a book. if you do buy this book, at least you will know going in that only the first 4 & a half hours or enjoyable, after that your mileage may vary.
I feel kind of drained and not sure if I want to spend money on book 6 because book 6 might be just as bad as this book, and only be half a book too.

A little too much exposition and p.o.v. swapping,
I like the series, but the entire book is a training arc. I think the author made a mistake by introducing enemies that were too powerful. It forces Arthur's previous struggles and gains as well as the entire academy thing to be meaningless.
Like really- the entire purpose and plot of the academy has been thrown out the window as though TurtleMe decided he didn't like the idea anymore. Lucas White? That was a potential gold mine in terms of a satisfying read. Instead? He became a demonic puppet and died without ever learning that Arthur IS Note.
The now forced gains in power and strength for Arthur... dagnabbit- TurtleMe has gone and basically turned him into a DBZ Saiyan. He has turned into a walking demigod. It just makes every other character unimportant unless he plans for his allies to gain some kind of convenient power boost that they have no right to.
Now about Sylvie. We have never seen her fight. We know she has a powerful lineage and is a dragon, but nothing beyond that. Next book we will receive a 'shock' when it is revealed how powerful she is- just enough to keep pace with the enemy.
So why am I upset about all this? Because I like(d) the series and it feels like TurtleMe has or is about to go the way of many inexperienced authors and overpower their characters and bungle the whole thing up. I've had enough of that already and I hope I won't see it here as well. Excessively powerful forces isn't what makes a story fun. What we are likely about to see is the silly retold war between angels and demons.

terrible ending
I was wildly disappointed with the ending. so far the books have been great, but at the end it leaves you hanging and unsatisfied. i dont listen to the books to hear from the point of view of a whole new set of characters 3/4 of the way through. i listen to the books to hear about arthur and tesia. its like they just wanted to fill with fluff to make it longer. i was not motivated to wait for the next one.

Highly Recommend this Series
The Beginning After the End Book 5: Convergence is yet another example of author TurtleMe’s growing abilities as a writer to not only engage his reader’s but transport them to a magically unique world of his creation, as should be the primary goal of all writers, even more so those of fantasy fiction. Once again Travis Baldree does a superb job to convey the personality and perspectives in every role presented. TurtleMe always leaves me desperate for more! I highly recommend continuing the series with this newest audiobook installment, or listen from the beginning if you have yet to begin the series. If you are a fan of stories with magic, dragons, elves and dwarves (the foundations of the Fantasy genre) and have not yet begun the series, this is the story for you!

Power up Arc
It is a good Audio book. But the story hasn't progressed much. The fact that it is a power up Arc may feel unsatisfactory story-wise. I recommend to have the book 6 at the ready before starting this one. Or at least, i think... since book 6 will only be out in a couple of days. the price is high because of the top notch performance. Those voices are so good, it really feels like i can't miss think who is actually talking ^^'
