Publisher's Summary

A T'au Empire novel

Fresh from his victory on Arkunasha, the young Commander Farsight leads a crusade to reclaim colonies lost to mankind's Imperium. But stiff resistance will test him to his limits and beyond.

Listen to it because: Phil Kelly continues his look at the life of Commander Farsight with his first campaign against the full might of the Imperium and shows how the T'au Empire's technological superiority fares against Imperial grit.

The story: the t'au are a mysterious alien race, diametrically opposed to the Imperium of Man in every possible way - in their mastery of technology, methods of warfare and social structure. Yet in galactic terms they are a young race, and naïve when it comes to the manipulations of Chaos. When promising young Commander Farsight is promoted to lead a crusade across the Damocles Gulf to reclaim the T'au Empire's lost colonies from mankind, the mood is one of optimism. With their mighty fleet, and superior weapons and machines, how can their endeavour possibly fail? However, despite a parade of early successes, Commander Farsight soon faces enemies he wasn't anticipating and finds not only his courage but also his soul tested to the very limit.

Written by Phil Kelly. Narrated by Helen McAlpine and Andrew Wincott.

A Standout of the Black Library

Crisis of Faith and Phil Kelly do an excellent job bringing readers into the story of the Tau in the wider 40K universe. The story presents us with a likable hero to empathize with, and moments of pause to prevent any assumption of a factions inherent "superiority."

Even for those whom know how the story ends, the voyage is one worth embarking upon.

Great Ride

My only issue was that it was too short! The narrator really have each character a unique voice. Well done!

Had potential, but disjointed and rushed

Disappointing overall, it had the foundations of a good story but felt disjointed and rushed. there were several instances where I lost track of what was going on, and elements of the story didn't do a good job explaining how they came to be. I checked a three times to make sure I didn't miss a previous book it was so bad.

Great performance.

As expected from the Black Library, this book is richly narrated and well paced. I own the physical copy, but since first listening to another Tau focused audio book "Kayon" on CD many years back I knew I would enjoy this as well.

Both actors delivered an excellent performance and I will surely listen to this work again in the not to distant future as I paint my stealth suits.

Exactly what I have always wanted.

This is the Tau novel I wish GW had released back when they first appeared in 3rd edition. Don’t listen to anyone who says it’s just okay, or somehow a subpar book just because it isn’t filled with the usual Mary Sue marines. You feel a genuine sense of danger even though the characters histories were determined a long time ago in many other snippets of lore. A lot of questions about who the Tau are, and the detailed history of their most famous commander were handled very well and gave this long time fan a lot to chew on. I have to say, as someone who plays them, and have often been frustrated by their rules, this book answered a lot of my burning questions as well. Read it if you want 40k with a change of pace from the usual stuffy marine lore (that all sounds like it walked off the set of masterpiece theatre), or read it if you want some really good science fiction from the alien perspective. Either way you won’t be disappointed.

Good for a Tua book

As an Ork guy this book was pretty good. Great performance like normal. Story was good. It has your standard combat mixed in with so Tua politics. Not great but if your a Tua guy or has a passing interest then it’s not a bad listen and leaves you wanting to follow the bread crumbs of the next book.

A good start, but ending seems forced

A good start and decent buildup for the theme of broken faith. Stories end seems a bit forced. But it does leave one with a sense of wanting a part 2.

For the greater good

Some grim dark moments I wasn’t expecting. Thought the book would just put the tau in a glowing light that do no wrong. I think it made the listen very interesting and enjoyable. Definitely getting the second book to listen to now!

For the Tau’Va

Phillip Kelly penned a fun and interesting portrayal of my favorite character in the 41st Millennium. With great character writing and just a bit of Plot Armor I enjoyed the tale of Commander Farsight

Hard to get through.

Great acting, but man the content is slow and boring. Very poor pacing, way too much time spent describing pointless minutiae. Had to return this one.
