Publisher's Summary
Sheriff Bree Taggert’s downfall is part of a killer’s cunning design in #1 Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh’s novel of murder, lies, and revenge.
Called to an isolated farm to check on an elderly widow, Sheriff Bree Taggert finds a brutal double homicide. One of the victims is Eugene Oscar, the bitter and corrupt former deputy she recently forced out of the department.
Working with criminal investigator Matt Flynn, Bree discovers that she isn’t the only one who had a troubling history with Eugene. But someone doesn’t want Bree digging up the past. She becomes the target of a stranger’s sick and devious campaign calculated to destroy her reputation, career, family, and new relationship with Matt. To make matters worse, she’s the prime suspect in Eugene’s murder.
When her chief deputy goes missing while investigating the case, Bree refuses to back down. She won’t let him become the next victim. His life and her future depend on finding a killer nursing a vengeful rage.

Should have read the book
The books are okay, but the melodramatic female narrative dims a decent book-if I was not stuck in stop and go traffic, I would have given up. A narrator can enhance a good book or weaken it.

Love Melinda Leigh books!
This was a great story! It's about a double murder Bree is trying to solve. About her niece and nephew, the children of her murdered sister, she's doing her best to raise and about her growing love for Matt. I loved everything about this story. Bree and Matt are such a great couple AND the real killer at the end is very surprising.
Very little affection shown and the F-bomb was used 39 times.
As for the narration: Christina Traister is a good narrator. She could make her males sound less like they are all whispering but at least they sound like men.

Not as good earlier books but still enjoyable
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as some of the earlier books. Also, sometimes the reader is hard to understand when she uses the “male” voice. Overall I would recommend this book.

Love this series
Love this Series! After I finished the Morgan Dane series I needed my fix. This series is almost as good. I really liked how the relationships finally expanded in this one.

Suspenseful, exciting and pure entertainment
The Bree Taggert series of books are pure entertainment. They are relatively short, packed with suspense and excitement and always have interesting side stories too. Nothing deep here, just good reading and fun. In this installment, Bree not only has a double homicide but there is a cyberattack against her which threatens to turn the community against her and a shadowy and scary survivalist group in the background. The cyberattack shows how easy it is these days to frame someone and try them in the media without a person doing anything wrong. As usual, there are also the stories about Bree trying to hold her late sister's family together and her developing relationship with her "partner in crime" solving Matt, who is a great character. The narration was good and the different characters were easy to recognize. All these themes come together for a satisfying ending.

1 performer got both male & female characters
Really dislike 1 reader for both female & male characters. Christina’s reading of female characters is great.
However she lowers her voice so low to read as a male, very difficult to hear & understand. Really distracting and uncomfortable. How much would it cost to add a male reader for male characters? Would make all the difference.
