Publisher's Summary

"It isn’t easy to write a protagonist that blends the best qualities of Anita Blake and Stephanie Plum, but Kim Harrison carries it off with style. This is a fun book! Read it!" (Jim Butcher, number one New York Times best-selling author)

In the Hollows, the vampires come out to play...and it’s always witching hour.

The first book in number one New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison’s Hollows series!

All the creatures of the night gather in "the Hollows" of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party...and to feed.

Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining - and it’s Rachel Morgan’s job to keep that world civilized.

A bounty hunter and a witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she’ll bring ’em back alive, dead...or undead.

Good, but slow

The story really is good, but you have to really give it time. The main character can be painfully foolish to the point you’ll get annoyed at her a couple times. Though this feeling seems intended.
Overall, it was a fun read.

A heroine blessed by good friends and dumb luck

Rachel is an impulsive, headstrong, and not very bright heroine who blunders through increasingly dangerous situations and just barely survives each one - through absolutely nothing thst she does right herself, other than (mostly) her judgement of who she can trust. The rest of it is just the blessing of blind, dumb luck.

The book isn't badly written and the plot is fine, with a passable performance. It's pretty enjoyable, except that I keep wondering how this woman can do such ridiculously stupid things. She is a heroine I really want to love. I just wish she weren't so common sense challenged and so determined to go charging in, without, as all her friends point out, pretty much no plan or a suicidal one.

I bought a bunch of these on sale, and they are ok to pass time.

It didn't suck.

Maybe I'm spoiled by James Marsters reading Jim Butcher's Dresden Files and the Thrawn Ascendancy read by Mark Thompson.

I found this one to be pretty basic, but it didn't have any scenes that were too cringy and helped pass the time. Decent filler while waiting for something better to come along. Way better than anything they made us slog through in high-school.

Hormonal

I wish the author would do more research into what a witch or a vampire is instead of spinning her own version and coming up with all kinds ridiculous stuff… everybody seems to be lusting after the main character and the interaction between characters when that happens is described at length to the very last microsecond… could not finish the book…

2 hours in still don’t care.

A ridiculously incompetent, whiny, and cliched main character, in a cliché’d setting makes for incredibly boring reading.

Good story, Excellent narrating

The story was good, what a whole lot of actual "witch" Stuff though. The narrator deserves an award she was fabulous.

Excellent production

I loved reading this book 15 years ago and the voice actress did not disappoint. I will be buying more!
