Publisher's Summary

Alexis Holt unknowingly meets the woman of her dreams at a party. Unfortunately, Alexis was at the wrong place at the wrong time and walked away from the encounter thinking Stacy Kirkland was an arrogant snob. Alexis knew it wouldn't be the last time she saw Stacy, and she wasn't looking forward to their next meeting.

Thanks to the internet, Stacy Kirkland already knows who Alexis is before they meet face to face. She's one step ahead of Alexis because Stacy already has a crush on her. There are a couple of problems, though - Stacy's in a relationship that's in the last stages of its demise, and after meeting Alexis, she's pretty certain that Alexis despises her.

Grab something cool to drink, find a comfortable place, and let Robin Alexander take you on a hilarious journey to happily ever after.

love this book!

Love can be boring, but not with Robin Alexander. "Dear Me"'s world is filled with enough content to withstand the Sap. I know it is supposed to be a rom-com, and it is, but this book is *not* yet another book about Romance Vs. Obstacles - it is about a wedding, just not that of the heroines. It is about class mashing, opposite world views, communication styles, occasional alcohol benefits and hazards, 20 different uses for your household cats, gardening tips and tricks and genitals popping up in unpredictable places. It was filled with humor and bursts of my laughter. The main characters are real - round, unapologetic characters, that think and act as very realistic gay adult women. Funny ones. So basically - I am saying - get this book, you won't be sorry !

Fluffy and witty in just the right ratio

Robin Alexander's trademark wit shines in this amusing narrative of down-to-earth single lesbians getting to know one another against the backdrop of a sugar-sweet hetero betrothal. The lesbian MCs begin their acquaintance with unintended hostility, at the engagement party that introduces us to "the Holt women" (the hilarious and loving matriarch Elise, her unrepentantly sex-positive unmarried daughter Allison, and Allison's daughters Alexis, the lesbian, and Alana, the soon-to-be-wed). As Alana's besotted upper-crust fiance Jason puts it, "the Holt women are magical," and much of the book is taken up by their fond bickering, heavily spiced with self-deprecating, and often hilariously raunchy humor. Into their world, Jason's favorite cousin Stacy, the other single lesbian, is magnetically drawn after her initial clash with Alexis. Half the book's fun is in how the two women get over the obstacles to their relationship, as neither is a pushover and both come with bumpy romantic backstories. As in Alexander's best books, the madcap dialogue is wrapped around a sweet core of supportive family relations (even Jason's ludicrously pretentious family is eventually softened up). The angst quotient is very low, so it's a heartening rom-com for pandemic times. Lori Prince narrates like a champ, even when she occasionally slips out of character. She has a naturally appealing mid-register voice, and was able to bend it into a grand total of at least 10 or more distinct female personae, and two, maybe three male voices! A good many of these voiced characters participated in extended dialogues (sometimes with three- or four-person rapid-fire exchanges!), hence the occasional minor slip when juggling personae. Honestly, I don't know how she did it. (I sure hope nobody harps on Prince's avoidance of a Louisiana "ethnic" delivery--there's too much else for her to wrangle in the MC's repartee). Elise the matriarch was given many of the most hilarious quips, and Prince gave her a gravelly delivery with a perfect pitch for the punch lines. But all were a pleasure to listen to, even in secondary character arcs like that of Alexis' BFF Jaime, an irrepressible extrovert trying to negotiate her recent heartbreak. I just hope more of Alexander's many books make it into Audible. They read like quaffing good prosecco on a warm summer evening (though her characters are likelier to be drinking beer, or downing exotic mixed drinks).

I've read every book she has written and this one lived up to my expectations 100%. So witty and hilarious.

Cute story

The story was cute. Both strong characters. The supporting characters were very good, as usual.

I do think that the Holt women had way too similar names. It got very confusing at times. I also don't think this was the narrator's best work. Stacy's voice went kind of deep at times and she sounded like Alexis.

Overall, a nice way to spend a work day.
