À propos de cet audio

What’s worse than Valentine’s Day after a brutal breakup? Being trapped in a snowstorm with your ex’s brother and maybe a murderer. A witty and chillingly romantic short story by #1 Amazon bestselling author Catherine Cowles.

After her boyfriend’s betrayal, the last thing Maia St. James wants is to celebrate Valentine’s Day. And when her friends force her out for a Death to Valentine’s Day masquerade ball at a mountain lodge, the last thing she expects is to kiss a masked stranger, especially when he ends up being her ex’s older brother. But that’s the least of her problems. When a guest is found murdered, the party becomes a mystery. And Maia must unmask a killer before her second chance at romance is cut short.

Catherine Cowles’s Death to Valentine’s Day is part of The Improbable Meet-Cute: Second Chances, stories for star-crossed lovers and hopeless romantics. They can be read or listened to in one sitting. Let’s do it again.

⭐️- Um… What the f*ck was this?! I’m so annoyed that I spent any money on this - even if it was less than $2. I don’t think CC is for me… I DNFed the first book of hers I attempted, and I should have DNFed this one.

I feel like the author was trying to fit way too much into the small space of this novella. There were way too many details and I lost track of who was who and how they knew the MCs/relevant to the story, but I didn’t care enough to look back and figure it out. I feel like I shouldn’t have to think THAT hard for a 100 page novella… The story between the MCs had the potential to be cute, but everything surrounding it was a disaster.

I quickly became bored during the first half of the book and the final 15-20% where the k!ller plot piece was tied up with a twist felt incredibly random.

FMC Maia is attending a Valentine’s Day party with her two long-time best friends when a woman is “unalived.” But oops, they’re snowed in, so everyone just kind of goes about the rest of their night without much fear that a k!ller is among them? We find out the k!ller is actually one of Maia’s two best friends when she attempts to “unalive” her the next day because she is tired of everything centring around Maia. Turns out the other woman was a case of mistaken identity. TF?!

In the epilogue, Maia says “I’d gone from being horrified about the holiday to having it be one of my favorite days of the year. It didn’t matter that it came with some hard memories. That was life. And the hard spots only made you appreciate the magical moments more.” Ma’am… Your long-time best friend attempted to “unalive” you… I think that was more than a “hard spot.”

The non-k!ller friend felt like he was written as a very stereotypical gay best friend and I found Connor’s narration of him to be incredibly annoying/cringe, so that took away my ability to even enjoy Connor as one of the narrators.

Just a terrible experience all around.
