Story
A master storyteller at his best - the O. Henry Prize winner Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story. Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King's finest gifts to his constant fan. "I made them especially for you," says King. "Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth."

Story
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

What the critics say
Featured Article: Quotes About Hard Work to Keep You Motivated and Moving Forward
Anything worth achieving is worth working for. Those goals that we reach when we really strive for them, giving it our all, are the most rewarding. Whether it is taking small steps towards your goals, shooting for a new objective, or simply dreaming those big dreams, hard work is what gets us there. Trusting in yourself and your own abilities will allow you to dig deep, put in the time, and get where you want to be. Everything is achievable with the right mindset.

Formating issues, but decent listen
There are issues with formatting, the final chapter of the last story, as well as the afterwords are repeated at the end, which throws off the timing of the rest of the book. The book itself is a fine listen, not my favorite multi-story book by King, but keeps the attention.

some of the material was missing.
when listening to the final story, the breathing method, there was a substantial part of the recording that was missing. I had to find it on YouTube to hear a third of the story

Great stories and outstanding performance.
Four of King's best novellas, read by elite performer Frank Muller. For some reason the audiobook chapters don't line up with the actual stories. Apt pupil bleeds into the two adjacent chapters.

I love Stephen King!
To be honest, I tried reading Stephen King in my teens and found them too long and descriptive. I use to say " Who cares how many colours are in a carpet!".
Now, I can't get enough! 75%-80% of my Audible library is Stephen King!

All 4 books are amazing, and the afterword too
Each and every one of these stories is interesting and well-narrated. The afterword is also a really nice insight into Stephen King and his process. The only down side, be prepared, is the abrupt end of one story and the immediate beginning of the next, like not even a paragraph break, like "and then this incredible thing went down. Apt Pupil (title of next book)....." I should've paused to just absorb the ending of one story, but the narration too should've provided a bit of "we hope you enjoyed this one, now get ready for the next book". It's wonderful to hear the original Shawshank, one of my all time favourite movies which I've watched at least a half dozen times, and it is still worth listening to the audiobook.

Excellent Stories
A great collection of stories to keep you entertained without getting into the long, drawn out stories King usually does (not that that is a bad thing, I love them but it's nice to get some variety over a 20 hour long period, especially after finishing a few of his longer ones). It was great to listen to the original story counterparts of acclaimed movies and I especially loved the last one!

Branching out of horror
Fantastic 4 novellas. Excellent narration. I've seen both Shawshank and Stand By Me (The Body) as films already. Not horror like normal for King, although it does touch on that in each story. To listen to the original writing is amazing. I really love Apt Pupil, and I wish I knew more about the Club in Breathing Method. Getting weird Dark Tower vibes from it....not sure if that's the point, but very creepy. Great purchase!

These are some of the best stories ever written, and I would argue are better than, or help make the movie better
