About this listen

A magical serial killer is on the loose, and gelatinous, otherworldly creatures are infesting the English countryside. Which is making life for the Ministry of Occultism difficult, because magic is supposed to be their best kept secret.

After centuries in the shadows, the Ministry is forced to unmask, exposing the country's magical history - and magical citizens - to a brave new world of social media, government scrutiny, and public relations.

On the trail of the killer are the Ministry's top agents: a junior operative with a photographic memory (and not much else), a couple of overgrown schoolboys with godlike powers, and a demonstrably insane magician.

But as they struggle for results, their superiors at HQ must face the greatest threat the Ministry has ever known: the forces of political correctness....

Differently Morphous is the latest and greatest tale to emerge from the mind of writer (and narrator) Yahtzee Croshaw.

Yahtzee painted a picture of a world, characters and left me wanting more of it.

The story really makes you think you are getting some type of Harry Potter spoof. However the over the top characters and build up to the mystery of who done it really made it into it's own. There was Lore and history of this modern England infused with magic and strange fluidic monsters that worked perfectly.

Yahtzee does fantastic voices to make each character seem alive. I really hope there is more to come from this seires. I'd love to see this made into a miniseries. It would be awesome. Overall I highly recommend it.

A fantastical story leaving me wanting more

It was a little dull in the middle but well worth it! Yet another amazing and fun story from this author

Fun read

A student at a school for people with magic finds out she has an eidetic memory, but alas no magic, She gets assigned as an assistant to an insane field agent at the same time as the secret government department that handles magic is forced to become not secret anymore. Demons they used to kill become the oppressed, demonic possession is now a lifestyle choice and The Hand of Merlin is just a bunch of doddering old racists

Very funny, in the vein of Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett. The occult, the mystical and the dangerous are all overlaid with government ineptitude, spin doctors, political correctness and social justice warriors. It even has an ominous prologue that pretty much ensures I will get the next book set in this world with these characters.

Funny, Modern bureaucracy over demonic possession

Well written and will performed. Really enjoyed the fact that there were different character voices that the narrator used

Great YA Book

As is usual for the author the characters are original and the descriptions vivid and humourous. The twist were non-stop and kept me thinking about the book even when I couldn't listen to it. The only problem is that it's political agenda is rather beaten into you with a large stick.

Funny and complex

I got this in a 2-for-1 credit deal, basically purely because I recognized his name from Zero Punctuation. I've played some of his games too (Trilby?) and really enjoyed them. I didn't know he wrote at all, and didn't know what to expect.

I think I'm only halfway through, but that's plenty far enough to know what to rate this! Great writing, had me cracking up repeatedly at work. Humorous commentary on topical topics, and some tastefully-sprinkled references to his ZP style. Love it.

Wow

This audiobook was a lot of fun. The author was quite humurous, and performed the voices for all the characters admirably.

This book was a lot of humorous fun.

Amusing and unique take on Harry Potterlike "what if magic were real." The world at large is happy to welcome the differently morphous to society. Chaos ensues.

Very good!

Yahtzee Croshaw manages to satirize almost every aspect of political correctness in this dark comedy, especially Canadian issues. His accent is British, but I wonder if Croshaw is a Canadian. In this audiobook you will find residential schools promoted as programs for the gifted and talented, but actually meant to train the distinctiveness out of them; Concatenating bureaucracies as only the Canadians (and British) can make them; Sulking and unhelpful teens on cellphones; Woke activists agitating for the civil rights of transdimensional aliens and the demon-possessed-- Croshaw turns all of it upside-down and somehow seamlessly weaves it together in a who-dun-it plot. I was surprised by the ending.
Recommended for those who like mysteries and dark satire.
