À propos de cet audio

From acclaimed author Charlie Donlea comes a twisting, impossible-to-pause novel of suspense in which a filmmaker helps clear a woman convicted of murder - only to find she may be a pawn in a sinister game.

The Girl of Sugar Beach is the most watched documentary in television history-a riveting, true-life mystery that unfolds over 12 weeks and centers on a fascinating question: Did Grace Sebold murder her boyfriend, Julian, while on a Spring Break vacation, or is she a victim of circumstance and poor police work? Grace has spent the last 10 years in a St. Lucian prison, and reaches out to filmmaker Sidney Ryan in a last, desperate attempt to prove her innocence.

As Sidney begins researching, she uncovers startling evidence, additional suspects, and timeline issues that were all overlooked during the original investigation. Before the series even finishes filming, public outcry leads officials to reopen the case. But as the show surges towards its final episodes, Sidney receives a letter saying that she got it badly, terribly wrong.

Sidney has just convinced the world that Grace is innocent. Now she wonders if she has helped to free a ruthless killer. Delving into Grace's past, she peels away layer after layer of deception. But as Sidney edges closer to the real heart of the story, she must decide if finding the truth is worth risking her newfound fame, her career...even her life.

Very happy with this one. Gripping finish that no one would predict so I’ve rated high.

Won’t disappoint

I have mixed feelings about this book, but I do confess that it was better than what I expected.
In the beginning I wasn’t happy with the writing, but once it started with the planning for a new season of a TV documentary, it became interesting. So interesting that I forgot noticing the writing.
At the end I thought that this was quite brilliant (even with the convoluted conclusion).
I was highly entertained, so it worked well for me, regardless of a few (or many) implausible things.
I did find the concept fascinating and I loved the structure.
This was my second book by this author, after “Twenty Years Later”, which I rated 3 stars.

Once again I read the physical book and listened to the audiobook simultaneously. I thought that the audiobook was decent, but not memorable.

Quite brilliant!

Don't Believe It, written by Charlie Donlea, is full of well-rounded characters, with hints and clues, and twists and turns, and shocking surprises. In the end, a satisfying, suspenseful murder mystery! I recommend it!

I didn’t like it at first, the way narrator spoke for other cultures, but overall narration was great and once I got into the story, I couldn’t stop. Was a great story but poor ending. Would’ve been 5/5 otherwise.

So into it except end…

We've all seen young lawyers with "The Innocence Project" and True Crime podcasters working to free the wrongfully convicted.. and Charlie Donlea offers his take. A television documentary producer works with a young woman convicted of murder in a foreign country - and makes a heckuva case that she's innocent - but all is not as it seems. The author plots a great, hyperrealistic, twisty-turny case explored with skill.. but with a somewhat predictable/somewhat disappointing ending.

As to presentation: Reader Nona Alvamar turns in a commendable professional, perfectly-paced, enthusiastic performance.. but I found her St. Lucian patois cringeworthy (the Caribbean accents are awful). I can't rate the production quality any higher than "average".

In toto, 'Don't Believe It' merits 6 stars out of 10. I enjoyed it as a 'Plus' selection, but wouldn't pay a Credit for it. Donlea writes much better than this.

Out-Of-The-Headlines Premise. "Adequate" Execution.
