INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jewell, three women are connected by one man in this “gripping, shocking, masterful” (Freida McFadden, #1 New York Times bestselling author) thriller.

He’s the perfect man. It’s a perfect lie.

Nick Radcliffe is a man of substance and good taste. He’s exactly what newly widowed Nina Swann needs in her life. But to Nina’s adult daughter, Ash, Nick seems too slick, too polished, too good to be true. When Ash begins digging into his past, she finds a trail of unsettling coincidences.

Martha lives in a neighboring town with her infant daughter and devoted husband Alistair. But lately, Alistair has been traveling more and more frequently for work, disappearing for days at a time, and Martha can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t right.

Nina, Martha, and Ash have no idea they are on a collision course with a shocking truth. And all three are about to wish they had heeded the same warning: Don’t let him in.

Editorial Review

A puzzle worth solving...
Lisa Jewell’s Don’t Let Him In ensnared me from the beginning. From the character interactions that made me want to pull out my hair in frustration to the genuine a-ha moments when things began to click, I was hooked. Following recent widow Nina, mourning daughter Ash, and neglected wife and mom Martha, Don’t Let Him In explores the complexities of these women's relationship with a man that turns out very wrong. Not only do they learn they shouldn't have let him in, it might be too late to avoid what may come crashing down on them. I had almost visceral reactions to the lies told, stories believed, actions ignored. And to put a cherry on top of these well-developed characters, Don't Let Him In is a multi-cast listen performed by top-notch talents like Richard Armitage, Joanne Froggatt, Tamaryn Payne, Gemma Whelan, Louise Brealey, and Patience Tomlinson. —Nicole R., Audible Editor

Confusing and repetitive. Frustrating. Couldn’t keep track of characters or time line. All over the place.

Loved this very eye opening take on how people trust too much and can be manipulated by a seasoned liar even against their better judgement.

Psychopaths gonna psychopath.

I really enjoyed this one. Devoured it very quickly and was surprised by a few twists at the end. Highly recommend.

Lisa Jewell’s Don’t Let Him In is a gripping psychological thriller that explores the haunting consequences of secrets, manipulation, and misplaced trust. The novel follows the story of Naomi, a woman still reeling from the mysterious disappearance of her sister. When she takes in a lodger—Tom, a charming yet enigmatic man—her quiet life begins to unravel in chilling ways.

What I found most compelling was the way Jewell constructs the dual timelines and shifting perspectives, revealing the characters’ dark histories piece by piece. Tom, in particular, is written with such subtle menace that even his most mundane actions seem laced with foreboding. Jewell doesn’t rely on graphic violence to create suspense; instead, she builds psychological tension through atmosphere, dialogue, and emotional vulnerability.

Naomi is a flawed yet sympathetic protagonist, and her slow descent into doubt and fear felt disturbingly real. The pacing was deliberate, allowing time for characters to develop while still maintaining a sense of dread. I especially appreciated how Jewell weaves in social commentary about the dangers of assuming the best in people, particularly when red flags are present.

This novel isn’t just a thriller—it’s a study in how trauma and loneliness can cloud one’s judgement, and how easily evil can slip past our defenses when it comes in a familiar form. Jewell’s writing is sharp, emotionally layered, and deeply unsettling in all the right ways. A must-read for fans of domestic noir and slow-burning suspense.
