Story
To the forest on the shore of the Kingdom of the Isles, the orphan Pug came to study with the master magician Kulgan. But though his courage won him a place at court and the heart of a lovely princess, he was ill at ease with the normal ways of wizardry. Yet Pug's strange sort of magic would one day change forever the fates of two worlds. For dark beings from another world had opened a rift in the fabric of spacetime to being again the age-old battle between the forces of Order and Chaos.

Publisher's Summary
Ages ago, sorcerers of unmatched power sundered a world into four realms—sky, stone, fire, and water—then vanished. Over time, magicians learned to work spells only in their own realms and forgot the others. Now only the few who have survived the Labyrinth and crossed the Death Gate know of the presence of all four realms—and even they have yet to unravel the mysteries of their severed world. . . .
In Arianus, Realm of Sky, humans, elves, and dwarves battle for control of precious water—traversing a world of airborne islands on currents of elven magic and the backs of mammoth dragons. But soon great magical forces will begin to rend the fabric of this delicate land. An assassin will be hired to kill a royal prince—by the king himself. A dwarf will challenge the beliefs of his people—and lead them in rebellion. And a sinister wizard will enact his plan to rule Arianus—a plan that may be felt far beyond the Realm of Sky and into the Death Gate itself.

Awesome books!
I read all the books when they first came out and I loved them. This was the first series I read without being able to put it down. I had all the audio books on tape but they were abridged way back when. I always fell asleep while listening to them. Performance was good but I was used to Tracy Hickmans voice while he read them. But still glad they came out with these again!

Nostalgic from childhood.. pinnacle of fantasy IMO
I know the headline is a lofty claim but honestly I am even more mesmerized by these books than when I first read them as a kid.
The worlds created in text and now converted to audio somehow develop a very vivid picture imagination wise, coupled with unique and honestly interesting characters. Each is flawed, and generally they are all original with very few fantasy tropes thrown in. The one giant caveat to that is the generic human/elf/dwarf mix, but that feels more like a byproduct of when these were written when that was considered the 'new hotness'.
This book in particular does an excellent job of introducing the worlds and characters, priming you for the rest of the series.
The narration is surprisingly good.. very easy to just get lost in it for hours on ends.. sometimes it is a bit slow paced so I just bumped up the playback speed and that helped a lot.
HIGHLY recommend!

love the story
I have been a big fan of this story for years. In the past, I would read the books once a year along with my other favorite series. Between my favorites, I would add new books while I waited for the next one to come out. Now that life is so busy, I am so thankful to be able to listen while I work or travel. My only grip would be the narrator could have been a little more into the story, but in the end, I will still listen to the books over and over again.

One of my favourite novels, fantastic reading
Dragon Wing is one of my favourite novels, and one I've reread several times. Fair Al-Kaisi really brings it to life, with a masterful performance.
I look forwartd to the other audiobooks in the Death Gate Cycle!

Books as good as I remember
Yes I own all the books from this series on paperback and have read them a dozen times over the years. I remember being a bit down when I really started listening to audio books to see these weren't available.
Now they are and my love of this incredible story and very interesting cast of characters remains as probably my favorite series by Margret Weis and Tracy Hickmans many collaborative series of books outside of Dragonlance (Darksword and Rose of the Prophet books are also great).
My only issue is the narrator is a bit one note in his delivery and sounds like George Takei without the range in his voice for so many characters. There are some things I think are mispronunciations of words but I really could be misremembering them or never said them correctly myself lol.
All in all a great book worth a listen. The narrator is always subject to opinion in audio books imo.

Horrible reading
I have the entire book series. When I read them, I couldn't put them down. I couldn't finish listening to the first chapter. Horrible reader. The worst I have come across on Audible. There are 2 others that I will not listen to.
