The story was good and original as far as the backstory and foreshadowing; setting it up for really good potential. If you get the references, it's a bonus. Characters have good development.

Unfortunately, the reader was not a good match for me. I found the narrator voice fluctuation in volume and speed exaggerated and distracting. I understand that this is a preference for everyone, so my recommendation is to sample it before buying it. Hope it is a good match for you.

(Volume would sometimes be too loud followed by script that I would not be able to hear. I have some bias as I just finished a book that I found perfectly narrated.)

The story was enjoyable, made me smile and laugh as he starts to thrive in the new system. Loved the personality of the sidekick :) The narrators performance was absolutely excellent.

Revel in the geeky anime and movie references

JFC the side piece who constantly squeals like stuck pig is the single most irritating character I have had the displeasure of listening to. almost entirely pointless in the 2nd half of the book besides shrieking "don't do that" and insults.

so besides the banshee, the book is actually good. weak to strong mc who actually works hard for every step he takes to become OP.

almost 5 stars but...

While the story outside of how the MC uses his spells is pretty good, I can't see how this story is allowed to be sold. It's obvious Amazon's team never went over it. This story is so full of blatant copyright violations. The MC instead of paying homage to tv/movies/anime and having the author use vague references, uses exact skill/spell descriptions and names, as well as quotes and character names. While much of these are from Anime, and I'm not sure how international copyright his handled, there were Blatant Star Wars copying and name dropping... which is owned by Disney, who is know to aggressively sue anyone for copyright violations. The sheer number of violations increases from every few chapters early on to multiple times every chapter as the story continues. This book should NOT be allowed to be sold. The amount of rewriting to fix this should the author realize how illegal what they just did was, would be massive, and considerably change the story.

massive copyright violations.

The author was really struggling to find ways to wedge in references to the point it negatively impacted the story. The narration was the only thing that kept me in the story.

Needed a bit more thought.
