Publisher's Summary

During the brutal crucible of Navy SEAL training, instructors often tell students to "embrace the suck". This phrase conveys the one lesson that is vital for any SEAL hopeful to learn: lean into the suffering and get comfortable being very uncomfortable. In this powerful, no-nonsense guide, Navy SEAL combat veteran turned leadership expert Brent Gleeson teaches you how to transform every area of your life - the Navy SEAL way.

Can anyone develop this level of resilience? Gleeson breaks it down to a challenge-commitment-control mindset. He reveals how resilient people view difficulties as a challenge, where obstacles and failures are opportunities for growth. Next, they have a strong emotional commitment to their goals and are not easily distracted or deterred. Finally, resilient people focus their energy on the things within their control, rather than fixating on factors they can't impact.

Embrace the Suck provides an actionable road map that empowers you to expand your comfort zone to live a more fulfilling, purpose-driven life. Through candid storytelling, behavioral science research, and plenty of self-deprecating humor, Gleeson shows you how to use pain as a pathway, reassess your values, remove temptation, build discipline, suffer with purpose, fail successfully, transform your mind, and achieve more of the goals you set

What the critics say

"Regardless of all the inevitable obstacles we face from the day we're born until the day we go over the great divide, if we simply embrace the suck and go all in, there's no limit to what we can accomplish." (From the foreword by David Goggins, New York Times best-selling author of Can't Hurt Me)

"The one constant that connects us all is that every single one of us is going to get knocked down in life. What defines us and our character is not just what we do next, but how we do it. Brent Gleeson recommends you embrace the suck and get after it. I agree. It's time to execute!" (Jack Carr, New York Times best-selling author of Savage Son)

"A book like this deserves its own category. Embrace the Suck is a book about resilience, personal development, and self-mastery. Each chapter is full of engaging stories of Navy SEAL missions complemented with real-life application for readers. This book screams, take action with your life. Indeed a work of art that I won't soon forget." (Alex Sanfilippo)

Alpha male must read

A lot of note worthy info and insight into creating a alpha mindset. Truly a must read or listen. The wheel of misfortune was awesome I’ve listen to many stories concerning buds and never heard of this till now. Maybe as a society we should use this type of discipline on our troubled youths along with mentorship.

Mr Gleeson. Awesome book

This book begins at Chapter 4!

This book doesn't really get going until about halfway into chapter 4. One of the best hard core motivational books I've listened to. I want to get a print copy to better take notes.

Actionable advice and the true key to overcoming personal barriers.

This book is legit. It’s one of the rare I’ve read/listened to that gives actionable advice. So many books promise to change your life but are filled with unhelpful examples and fluff. It’s tough to sift through the countless titles in this genre because they all have glowing reviews. Well, this review is real & from a normal person who is always seeking to learn strategies to push myself further.

If you’re struggling with avoidance or want to push yourself further this is an excellent start. I’d also recommend “Can’t Hurt Me”, “Man’s Search for Meaning” and “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius.

HOO-YAH Master Gleeson.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this one. So it was a fantastic surprise to listen to with its great structure and actionable plan.
The book caused me a few embarrassing moments while listening during training where Gleeson continuously says the most hilarious things and I'd burst into laughter in public.
Will definitely be investing in the physical book so I can scribble notes.

OUTSTANDING.

Want to improve your life? Look no further....

Want to improve your life? Look no further, Embrace the Suck is a tool to do it! I read a lot of self improvement books, I strive for the best. This book has a lot of new ideas and some I’ve read or heard before. The compilation of stories, research, and programs in this book cover most of all the tools I’ve used to improve myself. Highly recommend this book and look forward to more from Brent Gleason!
