À propos de cet audio

A revelatory look into the life and work of Ernest Hemingway, considered in his time to be the greatest living American novelist and short story writer, winner of the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.

Mary Dearborn's new biography gives the richest and most nuanced portrait to date of this complex, enigmatically unique American artist, whose same uncontrollable demons that inspired and drove him throughout his life undid him at the end and whose seven novels and six short story collections informed - and are still informing - fiction writing generations after his death.

This biography digs very deep into this man's life. Which alone made the book very interesting. The ending seems a bit rushed. But overall it was time well spent.

This was an absolutely outstanding biography of one of the greatest writers of all time. I have read several biographies about Hemingway, and wondered how much I would learn from another, but this was worth every minute of listening. More recently written ~ with the benefits of new information discovered, details in other biographies, and more recent knowledge of concussions, traumatic brain injuries and depression ~ as well as a fresh perspective (a female author), there is a lot revealed. Hemingway fans will appreciate the deeper dives into aspects of his life, his relationships and his final years. A suicide that may have seemed unfathomable, now seems unsurprising, albeit still shocking. Some myths reported as truths in earlier biographies are also debunked. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

For Hemingway fans, this is a must 'read' for anyone up to an easy listening 30 hours of a very detailed day to day life record. A Hemingway newbie will likely find this tome to be excessive in its minutia, but if you want to know the real man versus the writer, this biography covering in depth the seasons of Hemingway's uncommon life, will find author, Dearborn's writing well worth the time investment.

"Ernest Hemingway"----- the man.
