Publisher's Summary

Welcome to the neighborhood. Watch your husband, watch your friends, and watch your back.

Cat Winthorpe has worked hard to get what she has: a gorgeous home; social standing; and William, her successful, handsome husband. Then a friendly new couple moves into the estate next door. While cautious, a good neighbor like Cat greets them with open arms and warm hospitality.

Neena Ryder isn’t a fellow lady of leisure. A life coach with off-the-rack dresses, personal issues, and a husband who hasn’t delivered, she’s anxious to move up in the world. This beautiful new town is a step in the right direction. It’s also making Neena aware of what she doesn’t have. Namely, William. When Neena’s infatuation escalates into obsession, it’s just a matter of eliminating a few obstacles to get the life she wants. The life next door.

As Neena’s secret fixation grows, so does her friendship with Cat. But beneath their cordial interactions is a wealth of temptations, secrets, and toxic jealousy. For both women, the desire for a perfect life can turn perfectly dangerous.

What the critics say

“A glamorous and seductive novel that will suck you in and knock you sideways. I love this story, these characters, and the raw emotion they generated in me. I devoured every word. Exceptional.” (Tarryn Fisher, New York Times best-selling author)

“Raw and riveting. A clever ride that will make you question everyone and everything.” (Meredith Wild, number one New York Times best-selling author)

so scandalous

I loved Nina and Cat's "cat and mouse" game of manipulation. Cat is one of the best main characters I have read in while, in regards to her wit and tenacity.

Wealth does not equate to happiness.

A book told from the perspectives of the two main characters. Wealthy socialite Cat Winthorpe worked hard to get the prestigious reputation she has. Volunteering on committees, donating to fund raisers and working along side her husband William, supporting him while he runs multiple successful companies. They are best friends. Their marriage is rock solid. But even rocks have cracks in them...

Neena Ryder has come from nothing. And has made herself something to be reckoned with. She's got an established career, a devoted husband who runs his own business. She is fit and pretty and in a job position of respect as Dr Ryder. But is it enough?

When Cat starts to suspect that Neena is not interested in keeping her relationship strictly professional with William, she is determined to ensure her husband doesn't stray. The women's tug-of-war is covert and as drama filled as one might expect to find in an affluent gated community.

I so enjoyed that every character in the book was flawed. Some were worse than others, but in the end they all wanted the same thing, a love full of acceptance and loyalty. No matter the cost.

Expected better

Predictable, not on point/believable at many moments, I kept looking to see how much left to listen to because I can’t not finish a book. Did not leave me wanting more.

Loved It From Beginning to End!

NO SPOILERS! This was by far one of the best books I have listened to in 2020 and I listen to at least 100. I got the book last night and started it at bedtime. I ended up listening straight through the night. Yup, no sleep...I couldn’t put it down.

This book is a dark and witty domestic and psychological thriller. It has many twists and characters you will love and hate.

If you have never read AR Torre books you should also check out, “The Girl in 6C”. It’s a trilogy and also phenomenal. AR Torre really knows how to get into peoples heads and writes with no apologies. If you like Tarryn Fisher you will love this author too.

worst narration

Full disclosure, giving up 20 minutes in. This narration is unbearable. People whose opinion i respect recommended the book so I can only guess that the story line is decent.

It was $1.99 and I would like a refund.

It's been a while since I've listened to a book with characters I couldn't root for, to be honest if it had been a dollar I would still feel cheated.

TOO MUCH

Is this a realistic presentation of "the monied class?" Snobbish, catty, shallow
and boring! i tried to keep listening, willing to give the promised mystery/thriller aspect a listen, but just couldnt tolerate the offensive dialog.

Snotty characters

I was SO SORRY I purchased this. It has no redeeming value at all. The characters suck and so does their story

It was ok...

I was really intrigued throughout the story and couldn’t wait for all of the details to come together but was super disappointed when they did. It went a little too Betty Broderick for me.

Not a fan

I was not a fan of this book. I didn't like any of the characters. Every character seemed bitter. This book just shows how obsessed ppl are with the human flesh. The fact that ppl can go through so much to destroy another human or take what that have is sickening. This book was filled with so much insecurity, jealousy, hate and bitterness. There was not one happy moment in the book, very disappointing.

not a single redeeming character

I really struggle to finish this book. I would have been happy if all of the characters would have died in the end. What a bunch of narcissistic, loathsome people. Not my type of book at all.
