Publisher's Summary

The fourth and final part of the Murderbot Diaries series that began with All Systems Red

Murderbot wasn't programmed to care. So its decision to help the only human who ever showed it respect must be a system glitch, right?

Having traveled the width of the galaxy to unearth details of its own murderous transgressions, as well as those of the GrayCris Corporation, Murderbot is heading home to help Dr. Mensah - its former owner (protector? friend?) - submit evidence that could prevent GrayCris from destroying more colonists in its never-ending quest for profit.

But who's going to believe a SecUnit gone rogue? And what will become of it when it's caught?

Read Book 6 Next. Not book 5

I adore The Murderbot Diaries and give the whole lot 5 stars! However, I found it terribly jarring to read them in numerical order at the end after these first 4 novellas. Chronological order is BEST because books 5 & 7 are a continuation of the same storyline—not great to break it up. Book 6 actually happens in between books 4 and 5. There is absolutely no benefit to reading the next books as 5,6,7. So much more pleasant and way less confusing to read them: 6,5,7!!!!! And there are no spoilers reading them chronologically.

Good series: good plot, characters and story arc

Found this series quite by mistake. Be warned, some books are super short (3hrs) but the plot and story are complete and I really enjoy the characters and the pace of the book.

Loving the narrator

Listening to this narrator has been very enjoyable! He does a wonderful job and the series is so easy but intriguing. So happy I gave the first book a chance because they have all been extremely entertaining!

Best Murderbot Story So Far!

Murderbot reunites with his human friends when he realizes they are in danger in the fourth installment of THE MURDERBOT DIARIES. And, in true Murderbot fashion, has found itself in more trouble and conspiracy than it ever expected.

Murderbot continues to be one of the most enjoyable characters to follow through the galaxy, and this might be my favorite of its adventures so far. Watching Murderbot reunite with the only clients who have ever shown it kindness and respect made for a great story. There were plenty of moments for Murderbot to explore what it is and have some internal conflict, right before carrying readers into intense action.

I loved the balance of action, humour, and emotion, all of which were perfectly packed into a bingeable story that led to a satisfying conclusion. Highly recommended for all fans of sci fi!

Absolutely LOVE Murderbot!!

These novellas are wonderful stories about a super likeable AI. Kevin Free is more than a narrator. This book is basically one long dramatic monologue, and Kevin Free's performance is an essential element of what works so well here. Lucky me ... I own the next one ... And it's a novel!!

Rinse Repeat 🤔😶😡

Martha Wells has certainly made a place for murderbot in contemporary sci-fi literature. Yeah. However,…

The backstory eclipses a repetitive front story that does not evolve. 😡 Problem. Friendly robots and innocent humans battle evil space corporations. Got it. Move on.

After a while you start making up places where murderbot should be going or perhaps equivalent rogue bots! 🤖
Perhaps the Wrong Trousers from Wallace and Gromet crossed with Blade Runners Roy Batey….

Hoping for a Darwinbot to move things along.

Fun story but why did I have to buy 3 books to finish it

I really enjoyed the narration and Murderbot had me laughing out loud with it’s asides…but it took 3 books to really get some resolution to Murderbot’s internal struggle which, frankly, seems like a bit of a cash grab on behalf of the publisher and author. The narrator had to firmly declare “The End” because even though it was the end of the first and second books, the story was far from resolution. One needs to buy 3 books to feel progress and closure. Still, a fun story.

A joy

Murderbot is one of the most remarkable characters in sci-fi. Elevates the story -- which is pretty good in itself. The narrator perfectly captures him.

I loved it but these books need to be bigger.

Again I loved the book but these should be so much longer. This character is worth an epic novel.

entertaining but not on a deep

I enjoyed it enough to buy the next part each time but it has a superficial quality. I got them to keep me occupied at work. I don't think I would have bought them all if I only had them to focus on.
How akward a security bot/cyborg feels around humans tinges everything but I never really feel close to the characters.
