Publisher's Summary

For fifteen years FitzChivalry Farseer has lived in self-imposed exile, assumed to be dead by almost all who once cared about him. But now, into his isolated life, visitors begin to arrive: Fitz's mentor from his assassin days; a hedge-witch who foresees the return of a long-lost love; and the Fool, the former White Prophet, who beckons Fitz to fulfill his destiny.

Then comes the summons he cannot ignore. Prince Dutiful, the young heir to the Farseer throne, has vanished. Fitz, possessed of magical skills both royal and profane, is the only one who can retrieve him in time for his betrothal ceremony, thus sparing the Six Duchies profound political embarrassment - or worse. But even Fitz does not suspect the web of treachery that awaits him - or how his loyalties will be tested to the breaking point.

Fantastically immersive.

The author has written a fantastically discript story that draws you into it. The way the author describes moments of emotion hit the nail on the head in such a way I feel empathetic with the main character.
It is written in first person and focuses only on the main character with no bouncing from stroy to story. The narrator does a fantastic job of making the character into reality, immersing you deeper into the story.

It starts off slow, but it is intirely gripping just from the descriptive story telling itself.

Narrator was meh. Story good.

I found the narrator difficult to listen to at first. He did not pronounce half to names and words in the book the way my mind and the previous narrator did. I found the narrator spoke too slow as well and I had to speed up the narration to make listening tolerable. I enjoyed the story though. They're good books and Robin Hobb is an excellent writer.

Pleasantly surprised

Got this one because it was free in the plus catalogue. Kept me engaged the whole time and now I have the subsequent books in the trilogy to listen to as well the original series to check out. Nicely written and well performed, I have no complaints!

I actually quit this one part way through

It is very rare that I ever quit something part way through. But I just couldn’t go another 15 hours. Sometimes a book starts slow but then you give it a chance and things picks up. This one starts slow and then gets slower and slower.

Took me bit to get into it but now I'm hooked

I wasn't into the narration at first, but I figured I'd give it an honest try. The characters grew on me and so did the narration. Now I'm invested and kind of wish I'd started on the first series! Definitely an oops it's past my bedtime but I just have to get to a good stopping point kind of book!

Difficult transition of narration

Great storyline continuation of the Farseer Tales. Great writing but the change of narrators was challenging to transition to. After 3 books with a different narration of characters & pronunciation it took a long time to adjust to the new narrator.

There is wonderous world in here

This was my first book from the Elderlings series. I enjoyed this listen and found it even more enjoyable to read long using Google Chrome's auto closed captions. I found th eworld so intriguing that I had to go listen to the Farseerer Trilogy
After listening to the first book of the series I find James Langton a much more enjoyable listen. Despite other reviewers comments, this book has plenty of action, it builds up logically as any adventure does. This is not a Dungeons and dragons or LitRPG book. This book is the continuation of the life story of one character (from a child that could barely speak to an old assassin that wanted to be left alone). I look forward to completing the entire series, but this is my favorite of the series so far. For a book that can move me so well as to bring a tear to my eye for the loneliness of a couple of fictional characters is indeed a sensational book.

Plain and simple

Do not expect too much from it. It si a typical action quest without any unpredictable turns or twists in story.

Slow , very slow

I usually don't quit books, especially if it's a series, but this was just excruciatingly slow, I'm 8 hours into the book and I'm bored to death... Narrator was good, but I can't take another 14 hours of this
