Publisher's Summary

On the worst birthday of my life, I come home to find my boyfriend in bed with another woman. Within hours, I’m drunk, homeless, and pledging to stay single forever. And that is when the dangerously sexy Seelie King rolls through town, looking for fae like me.

Every generation, the king holds a competition for Seelie queen. But for reasons he won’t explain, Torin is looking for a charade, not a real marriage. So when I drunkenly sling insults his way, I have his attention.

When Torin offers me 50 million to participate, I think, “What have I got to lose?” The answer turns out to be “my life,” because my competition will literally kill for the crown.

And the more time I spend with the seductive king, the harder it becomes to remember it’s all supposed to be fake. Now, my life—and my heart—are on the line.

Woof

I think I would have enjoyed it more if it hadn't been so overhyped!

Thoroughly enjoyed

I was just sifting through books and I did exactly what we shouldn't do, I judged a book by its cover. I couldn't help it! The cover is gorgeous! I hadn't heard anything about this book so I went in with zero expectations and I was hooked immediately! Now I'm sitting here doing the "I can't wait for the next book" dance. Frost feels like a cross between The Selection and Throne of Glass.

Cliché after cliché and lack of creativity

Terrible. the story, the writing, the narrator. the author defaults to swears when there are plenty of other words amd descriptors which could be used. it made me hate the protagonist.

Would have given five stars, but...

I loved this book. I would have rated it 5 stars, but it ends on a cliffhanger with a bunch of loose ends, and the second book ruined it for me. The second half it totally different in tone and pacing, and I was not a fan. It's too bad, because if this book had been able to be a stand-alone novel, it would be one of my favorites.

What a fun start to an Urban Fantasy duet!

Frost is a fun take on blending the Fae and human worlds together. We have humor, intrigue, and some romance (obv) that serve as the foundation of what is sure to be an entertaining duet!

What I loved:
1. For whatever reason, I’m a huge fan of a “down on her luck” FMC. Maybe it’s because I’ve found myself in plenty of unlucky situations 🙃. Ava is a survivor who uses her pluckiness and humor to keep herself grounded and working towards the simple life she dreams of.
2. The blend of urban fantasy and fantasy! I love seeing the dichotomy of old world vs human world and how Ava navigates both spaces.
3. That ending!! Did I see it coming, sure. The author definitely left crumbs leading you up to that cliffhanger — and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

The audio for this was fun to listen to and kept me 100% entertained while cleaning my house. If you’re looking for some easy listening that includes some giggles and snark, go for the DL.

So good!

This is a well written fantasy romance. The spice is 1 but the character and world building make it an easy read. You won’t regret listening until you realize the next book isn’t available yet.

Similar to Throne of Glass

I usually really love CN Crawford's books, and while I didn't necessarily dislike this one, it just felt... disconnected. A little repetitive. There were some instances that felt a little too similar to Throne of Glass, and there was one conversation with one of the female characters and the male lead that was almost a direct rewrite of a conversation between Miss Bingley and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. It ALMOST comes off as lazy because of all the elements that feel too closely connected to other books. I don't know if that's intentional or not, but it was slightly off-putting nonetheless. Other than that, it's a pretty basic plot. A little insta-love. Pretty predictable, but I always love predictability because I know exactly what I'm getting. If you're a fan of CN Crawford, it's definitely worth a read, but it definitely is not my favorite of her books.

Fast pace

This book was exciting and had some light humor here and there. Overall, it was interesting and I will stick with the series. Some parts needed to be glossed over (small points that are irritating but can be forgotten). I think much of this would have been avoided if the book was longer. But again, let me say, it had an interesting plot. Not as cookie cut as I first thought it would be.

Frost is not their only problem

I listened to the book quickly as I gleaned over the chapters and held my breath for more information.

Such A Great Fae Read

Ava had a horrible birthday and it kept getting worse. Meeting Torin, the Seekie king, was a fiasco which turned into something so much more. She is fae living in the human world since she was abandoned and the far kicked her out. Ava learns of a secret Torin is hiding about his past love and what happened to her. Ava wins the competition, but then wishes to go back home…..where did she get transported?!?!
