About this listen

More than 3,000 years have passed since the first events recorded in Dune. Only one link survives with those tumultuous times: the grotesque figure of Leto Atreides, son of the prophet Paul Muad'Dib, and now the virtually immortal God Emperor of Dune. He alone understands the future, and he knows with a terrible certainty that the evolution of his race is at an end unless he can breed new qualities into his species.

But to achieve his final victory, Leto Atreides must also bring about his own downfall.

A nice follow up to Dune Messiah

messiah was a bit of a slog, God-emperor brings the history, science, and religion of Dune back but is far more exciting than the previous book. I really enjoyed it!

The Dune Saga Remains As Weird As Ever

The first thing I realized during the opening chapters of the first Dune book was that it was a weird story. Every following book continued to get weirder and weirder. This book didn't fail that.

Frank Herbert is a master at using philosophy, details, and logic, to slowly twist his characters from past books into lesser, greater, and weirder ways. Paul to the Preacher, Alia to the alien, Leto to Lord. Nothing that Frank Herbert creates escapes this clutches, especially the poor Duncan.

the best of dune

frank was a political commentator and his allegories throughout this series come out completely in this book.

as much as people dislike his later works, I think they became more and more politically charged from the time he wrote.

this book, above the rest is far more relevant to today than people realize.

Having read Entire Dune Saga it’s Awesome to listen to it

Having read Entire Dune Saga it’s Awesome to listen to it.
Now awesome to hear the entire Saga not a abridged “movie style” version to edit for Time Lenth

I forgot how good this is

I've read three books in the Dune universe. this and Children of Dune are my favorites. I played this o e at night and my husband, who has read ALL of the Dune books, stayed up to listen. this was amazing and the narration was fantastic. would listen to it again.

A Poorly Aged Classic

The reading is great, first off. But the story has some old fashioned sensibilities with regards to gender and sexuality that haven't aged well. However, I would say that for the scifi aficionados, this is absolutely a required listen.
