Publisher's Summary

The April Fool’s Day had been a roaring success for all, it seemed - except for poor Mr. Cartell, who had ended up in the ditch - forever. Then there was the case of Mr. Percival Pyke Period’s letter of condolence, sent before the body was found - not to mention the family squabbles.

It was a puzzling crime for Superintendent Alleyn....

A solid story

One of Ngaio Marsh's better stories, this plot is free from the ridiculous theatrical and absurd flourishes that cheapen so much of her catalogue. This plot hinges on believable motives and circumstances and though dated, stands up well against her contemporaries within the genre.

The narrator does a decent job, his acting of some of the characters is a bit annoying but fortunately he voices the main characters more pleasantly. If you are are listening to the whole series in chronological order, as of the date of this review Hand in Glove is the first volume narrated by Jeremy Sinden. Personally, I dislike change so I was not predisposed to like his effort.
