Publisher's Summary

The New York Times and USA Today best-selling series.

Humanity has finally found a new home, but the price is blood....

After a long, perilous journey, Hell Divers Xavier Rodriguez and Magnolia Katib discover the Metal Islands, a sunny, habitable zone where thousands of people live by fishing and farming. But this "paradise" is really a violent warrior society ruled by the cannibal King el Pulpo. For the first time in X's life, he is forced to lay down his arms and surrender.

Back on the airships, the Hell Divers are recovering from a gruesome discovery at Red Sphere, where they learned the truth about World War III. Now, they must fight another war - this time for what remains of their own endangered species. As the battle approaches, alliances will be forged and others broken.

Forced to fight in the Cazador army, X faces his toughest mission yet. Will he help his people come down from the sky and claim the promised land, or will humanity go extinct?

Why continue when you have nothing to say?

My view is that the second book of a series is worse than the first; the third is worse than the second and so on. Imagine how bad is ‘Hell divers V’!!!

Best one yet.

This was one heck of a ride!! I couldn't read this fast enough and never wanted to put it down. There is so much I want to say about what happens, but it would spoil things. X, Magnolia, Rodger, Miles and all the other characters are put through the ringer and I gasped, cried and was with the throughout the ordeals.

The author has an amazing ability to create characters we care about, and there are so many in this series that I root for. When X went off with certain people and they encountered something, the action sequences left me breathless. My heart went out to Magnolia, and it was in my mouth the whole time because of Miles. Then when you add in Tim and everyone else, I was on the edge of my seat.

This book was everything I was hoping it would be and more. I devoured it and am so looking forward to the next one. Be prepared because when you dive into this one, you won't want to come up for air.

RC Bray is a phenomenal narrator and always delivers an amazing performance. His tone for X is perfect and he doesn't just read this, he preforms it.

Brilliant addition to the series!

Just when I think this series can’t get better, it does! X is just such a perfectly messed up hero you have to love him. The man doesn’t know the word defeat either and you don’t want to be on his bad side. So many great characters in this book all playing their part and doing what is necessary to help keep the human race going against seemly insurmountable odds. This book has it all: thrills and surprises, love and loss, and the human spirit’s will to fight and never give up.

If your looking to read this as the first book the author does a good job of keeping you informed, but the series is so great why would you not want to start from the beginning? You don’t want to cheat yourself out of all the other great adventures of X and the crew.

Edge of your seat reading

HD5, riveting, captivating, emotional. Smith delivers all you could ever want in a good book. He made me laugh, cry, gasp, yell and a few other emotional responses. He takes us to the Metal Islands, reveals their way of life to us, showing the savageness, the cruelty, the despair. He thrusts us into the midst of battle on the sea and from the air, showing the carnage and ensuing death. He shows us bravery, loyalty, trust and ultimate sacrifice. This book is filled with action from beginning to end. Smith sinks his writing claws into you and holds fast, not letting go until he has wrung every conceivable emotion from you. This book may end the search of the inhabitants of the Hive for a new place to live but it also begins a new adventure as they start a new search for the survivors they now know are out there.

BEST book of the series!

First off, I LOVE this entire series. Every book is engaging and entertaining. Start at the beginning, but listen to them all until you get to this one!

However, THIS is my favorite book of the entire series (just behind book 1).

Per usual, RC Bray kills it with the narration.
