Publisher's Summary

A cold dawn rises after a civil war, but far worse lurks over the horizon.

Nathan barely finishes burying friends before he must rally a furious, discordant nation around a new empress and stem the tide of holy war.

Two prophets fight for the hearts and minds of a desperate, divided populace. The Empire's greedy nobles posture for pride and territory while Traufaumh's priests dither and their inquisitors brutalize from the shadows. Amid all this, the demonic Messengers grow in power, threatening to destroy Doumahr overnight.

Nathan struggles to prevent the collapse of everything he's fought to protect. While he stands at the peak of his power, he can’t bludgeon foreign rulers into submission. Saving the world requires him to work with allies he can't trust, who often come with a few skeletons in the closet.

He may soon learn that even choosing the lesser evil involves paying a high price, one he may not be willing to pay.

omg! the chaos has arrived!

are you freaking kidding me?!!!!!
the the the....
wow. the chaos has arrived. while more ladies get time with Nathan. domar is heading for hell in a handbasket. the enemies just keep getting stronger. plans keep getting made and thrown out the window from the opponents. falmeer just can't get their shit together and be on the same page.
bits and pieces from book 3 and 4 are settled. and other parts make their reoccurrence and presence known in this book. characters and locations and elements make a resurgence.

Savannah is such an amazing talent that you feel and understand everybody that she voices is different. makes you despise some of the characters that need to be despised and makes you Revere the characters that feel like they deserve it. others they just feel meh because that's really all they are...
and the way that KD Robertson has done the writing. you feel absolutely everything for the characters. I am in absolute shock at the ending of this book and cannot wait for the next one. which I know is going to be a long time coming because this book just came out on audible.

oh I'm going to be in knots for months at least.... until the next book in the series gets released. the cliffhanger is one hell of a cliffhanger.
