I enjoy Sophie Irwin's novels but not this one. It has a catchy title but fails to deliver. The writing is choppy, the characters shallow, and the storyline just doesn't deliver the humour one expects. The novel could not keep my attention and, a first for me, I fell asleep several times.

The narrator was a bit over the top, especially with the Duke's voice. Really? Portrayed as a blithering idiot and his storyline was silly and not contemporaneous to the period.

Yawn

I really enjoyed this book. Great performance and fun story. It used a lot of familiar tropes, but put a new spin on them. I liked the element of mystery and thought the characters were well written. The love story, while somewhat predictable, still left me biting my nails wondering "will they? won't they?".

Sophie Irwin is a terrific writer. This book has me laughing, swooning, forgetting about everything else for a couple days.

A funny, pleasurable summer read
