Publisher's Summary

I thought I understood power.

My parents taught me that magic attracts equal danger, and everything I've seen since becoming a demon contractor confirms it. I've witnessed how power twists and corrupts - and I've tasted power no human should wield.

I thought I knew greed.

Ambition and avarice drove my family into hiding. My parents died for someone else's greed. I've never hunted anything in my life, but now I'm hunting their killer - with my demon's help.

I thought I'd seen evil.

But with each step closer to my parents' murderer, I'm uncovering a different sort of evil, piece by hidden piece. I've stumbled into an insidious web that silently, secretly ensnares everything it touches. My demon and I came as the hunters...but I think we might be the prey.

Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Spellbound, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen, available summer 2020.

Fantastic :)

If you've come this far you know what you are getting. If not, I'd advised starting at the beginning of Guild Codex: Spellbound. Trust me it's worth going in order! And its well worth the listen!

This series is hard to out down.

Annette Marie writes relatable, flawed, Human feeling characters. Tori and Robin aren't empty reader insert characters they feel like people you wouldn't mind having a beer with. they make motivated decisions and have moments of real self doubt and triumph alike. I've recommenders these series to several friends and I recommend it to you.

Better than book 2 - A must read

This is much better than book 2. Robin and Zylas actually began to work together! Robin still whine’s but it is not as bad here. There is still the incessant talk about the grimoire and how she, Robin, wishes she could work on it with her mom. That point has been beleaguered enough. What is getting annoying is the unconsummated attraction between Robin and Zylas. Do something about it or drop it. Robin snaps and insult Zylas because she is attracted to him. Why punish him?

There is a lot of discussion (the question was asked in book 1 too) about why the color of Robin’s face changes. That became very annoying. Just tell him. Why so much discussion? Robin still has zero fighting skills and must rely on Zylas to get her out of trouble. When she is thrown around, she stumbles when she lands. Then she will whine about being clumsy. I picture Aaron, Kai or Ezra coming out in a roll and firing their weapon. More people become aware of her and Ezra’s dangerous secrets.

A contractor is supposed to have someone cover their back as they concentrate on handling the demon. Amalia does not cover her back. From book 1 Robin and Zylas has had to go back from Analia. She has gotten paralyzed with fright, has no weapons and just stands there. At one point Zylas has two human fools under his arms fleeing for their life. WTF, ladies even Tori has been learning how to defend herself.

Love this series! no disappointment at all!

I have been waiting for this book. I love the fictional world created and mixing with other series the autor writes. This series is so well thought out and has the best mix of action, adventure, fantasy, slow romance, and comedy. The narration is on point and the story line never bores. Thank you!!!

This series keeps getting more interesting-rare!

I’m not used to this. It’s become my own personal catnip. (Advice though, to editors or whoever- mix up adverbs and don’t let Robin the heroine fall down SO much.. so something else useless...😊. So far I love this side series
better than the original that got me started.
(One unlikely event- that Zylis hasn’t figured how to read in his own.)
