À propos de cet audio

In addition to strength, steel, and courage, a hero discovers he's in need of a friend, in the first installment of a daring and dangerous fantasy adventure.

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has...Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere.

Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway. Naturally, Daniel is classified as a "hero," while Orrin is—also naturally—relegated to the fantasy equivalent of "bleh." Nothing new there.

But in this realm populated with lethal foes both inhuman and inescapable, sticking together matters more than ever, and soon Daniel and Orrin will discover more about themselves—and each other—than either one thought possible. In fact, Orrin just might find the confidence and strength to become something other than your average sidekick....

The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than 600,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

This was a very well-written, story-rich isekai story, more realistic than many in the same genre! The characters are grounded in their respective realities and perspectives, with plenty of room for development, and the writing style is immersive, with a biased narrator.

My only complaint is that the performer read all class and skill titles in a loud, robotic voice. Like, in the middle of a character speaking, certain words are replaced with loud, monotone “system” voice, which was a little grating at first.

Overall I enjoyed the whole way through and can’t wait for book 2.

Realistic protagonists and world… a pleasant surprise!

I liked the book, I will pick up the next one too but the names kept bringing me out of it. like they had to change the names in post and it was a jarring experience to listen to. because the volume and everything would change on every class or spell name.

it was good, but..

Not to shabby for the litrpg/isekai genre which tends to be filled with tropes, and overdone cliches. It follows a predictable format but tries to take its own unique spin on it, though it takes a long time to build up momentum to capture and maintain the reader/listeners interest. I felt I wasn't really invested until the last quart of the book to give you an idea to the pacing. Having said that it still kept me entertained enough to warrant pre-ordering the next book, but I'm easy enough to please, so it may not be for everyone. 3.9/5 stars.

Fairly predictable but entertaining non the less

Loved it. Really felt like a Video game and story telling was awesome! Character building was great as well, went straight to the second book after finishing it!

Great story!

I like the story, and the voice actor is very good at his job (one of my favorites).

however: someone decided that every [class name] or [skill name] needs to be in the 'system' voice, even when that word is in the middle of a character's dialogue. HUGE mistake.

it is so jarring and distracting when a female character is having a heartfelt moment, only for one word in the middle of her sentence to come out as a robotic male voice, completely out of context. ruins the moment surprisingly effectively.

this is one of the few times where I'll prefer the written version over the work of an accomplished voice actor. Would have been 5 stars if not for that one issue.

besides that one glaring pet peeve: it may not be the most original story known to mankind, but it is enjoyable and well written without becoming too shallow. A nice little adventure that I'd recommend, generally speaking.

would have been great if not for one thing...

Ok, this was a really good book overall, and I’m tentatively going to get book 2 with the hopes that a major issue stops being such a problem in the next one, namely being if every OP ability that Orrin possesses leaves him permanently crippled and unable to properly utilize them in any sort of regularity then it detracts from the fun of the story significantly. If the drop in stats was temporary instead of permanent it would be much better. And his Cycling shouldn’t be having worse effects from using it for a single day then using it for as long as he did at the start. Narration was top tier as always from Nick and I hope book 2 fixes some of the issues with Orrins abilities that book 1 had.

Loved the story except for

I always enjoy a good lit RPG like this, but whoever decided it was a good idea to edit key game words as abruptly spoken words throughout the entire book needs a smack across the head. it is so annoying and constantly takes me out of the story

Fun litrpg! but.. key game words are edited really annoyingly

Two best friends, brothers. Fighting to survive in a new reality. Not knowing whom to trust.

Great book. Hoping for a long series with lots of characters intertwined in an epic story!

I enjoy LitRPG, but sometimes it feels like the genre is stuck in a rut.

Enter: I'm Not The Hero.

The book shows us the perspective of the character who WASN'T chosen to be the hero...you know, the OTHER one. The hero's best friend and sidekick, who isn't all powerful and isn't always right. And while some books would take this idea and run with it by turning the hero into an anti-hero, this one doesn't. The hero is a good person, and so is our main character.

The worldbuilding is solid enough, and the voice acting is well done. There's some drama, some strategizing that the reader can follow, and some mistakes made that readers can wince at. And there's some captivating hints that our main character might just be the main character by the end of the series - even if that's not true in book one.

I'm willing to give this series a ride. It's better than most, and I like where it's going.

An interesting twist on the LitRPG genre
