Publisher's Summary

Journey to the Center of the Earth is one of literature’s earliest works of science fiction. It vividly animates a fantastical subterranean world as an intrepid crew, led by the eccentric Otto Lidenbrock, traverses the planet’s core and its various bizarre obstacles: giant mushrooms and insects, a herd of mastodons, prehistoric humans, a treacherous pit of magma, and more.

Tim Curry, narrator of the customer favorite A Christmas Carol, returns for an encore performance that delivers a range of distinct character voices and captures the energy and enthusiasm of a time when scientific exploration was a brand new adventure.

Loved listening to this. Well written and narrated

Loved listening to Tim Curry read this book. He has an appropriate voice for the period and the story. A brilliantly written piece that's been on my list for a while. I did find the story a little slow but the brilliance of the writing more than made up for it.

A great performance of a stale story

Honestly, had this book been any longer, or had almost anyone else narrated it, I wouldn't have finished it. The pacing is just so incredibly far from anything exciting or engaging it's almost painful.

I think we all know what to expect in terms of what the characters find in "the center of the earth" and that's what made me want to read/head the story... what I didn't expect was that the entirety of that interesting, exciting idea is restricted to the last quarter of the book and is almost entirely unrelated to the characters activities except to say "we saw something interesting from a distance."

the vast majority can be summed up as two characters bickering about directions and mineralogy, which is not what I signed up for.

That said, I could listen to Tim Curry read recipes for bread. That man's vocal charms are an absolute treasure.

Un classique à lire

C'est un classique. L'histoire prend de l'âge, mais pour l'époque, c'est 5 étoiles. Et Tim Curry en fait une lecture intéressante à suivre.

Good story!

I had watched the film's of this book since my childhood, and it had always fascinated me. However, only now did I listen to the original story. I thought it was a good story, but I think that I was a bit underwhelmed after all these years. Nevertheless, I recommend this grans tale! God bless!

A Classic But Not That Great

I had a hard time finishing it. Most of the scientific words and concepts were over my head. I love listening to the classics regardless.

Wonderful storytelling!

Wonderful storytelling — from the brilliant mind of Jules Verne, performed perfectly by Tim Curry. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Good Stuff

Excellent narration of a classic tale. If you like turn of the century science fiction, and geology in particular, this will certainly please.

Niche science fiction

This story is of a very specific sci-fi niche, being so antiquated and full of scientific details. I understand cognitively why this story by Jules Verne is so remarkable, especially considering when it was written; but as a listener, I couldn’t have endured the style of this writing without Tim Curry’s expert narration. Curry is the reason I gave it a shot in the first place, and he kept me listening until the very end.
