Publisher's Summary

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

Known is the fifth book in Bone Secrets, the multimillion-copy bestselling series.

After a brutal snowstorm in the Cascade Mountains, Chris Jacobs discovers two things he never expected to see: the charred shell of a cabin, and Gianna Trask and her sixteen-year-old daughter huddled in an SUV, having barely escaped from their burning vacation rental.

Still scarred from a childhood ordeal, Chris knows there’s something sinister about the scene - it’s the stench of burned flesh.

Forced to wait out the blizzard in their rescuer’s retreat, medical examiner Gianna Trask wonders if her hidden past has finally caught up with her. When a body is found in the destroyed cabin’s ashes and a forest ranger is brutally murdered, both Gianna and Chris must confront their secrets if they want to escape the violent threat lurking outside.

In the fifth book in the Bone Secrets series, Kendra Elliot leads listeners on a dangerous, twisting journey of two lives forever changed by a fiery snowstorm in the mountains.

OK, but not quite as good as previous books

Audible. Also available to borrow ebook/audio via KU. This is one of those books that’s less expensive to buy the ebook & add-on the audio ($6.98 for both at the time of this review).

Chris Jacobs (introduced in book 3, Buried) is at his secluded cabin when he sees a neighboring cabin on fire. He finds Gianna Trask and her teen daughter, Violet, in their vehicle outside the remains. It becomes apparent that Gianna is being targeted and she and Chris (along with Michael & Jamie) work to discover why and keep her safe.

This was a nice HEA for Chris. Unfortunately, something was missing and it didn’t quite wow me the way some of the others did. The pacing was quite slow at times. Perhaps because in an effort to bring readers up to speed on events from Buried there was a LOT of info-dumping from that book. Parts were really good, but other parts felt overly confusing or forced. 3.5 stars.

Tanya Eby was great narrating this, though I do wish Luke Daniels could have been brought back since he narrated Buried.

A bone secret

What didn’t you like about Tanya Eby’s performance?

She is not a good actress for reading. She charging through the story as if she only has five minutes to get it done. No real emotion just reading! I cannot continue with this story. I don't understand why the author wouldn't recognize this.

Any additional comments?

Cannot finish this book!

Murders in the Oregon Cascades!

Kendra Elliot has written another excellent mystery/thriller set in western Oregon! Tanya Eby's narration is superb as always.

This novel is not the type of serial killer book that Elliot usually writes. While the antagonist kills several people it is an effort to reach a specific goal.

Great

Wow, I enjoyed that so much and I don't usually mention characters specifically but I am so thrillered that Chris's story continued and ended well in this book. Great characters, action and the bit of humor was good as well. The narrator did a great job with these characters. I recommend it.

Another Great One!

This series has been amazing. I knew when it was time for Chris to reappear, his tale would be heart-rending and beautiful. Boy, this story has it to the full. This roller coaster runs full speed ahead from page one to its blissful ending. Breathing is optional in between.

This novel easily stands alone if you're new to the series. But it will be best enjoyed if you've read the other books in the series to best understand the characters involved and their histories. This is particularly true of the hero, Chris, who had a very unusual and tragic childhood, suffering trauma that brutalized his life into adulthood as well. Whether you choose to back up to the beginning or start with this book, chances are you'll be going back to read the others anyway. They're that good.

Good romance-mystery

I recommend the Audible version narrated by Tanya Erby who does a great job with the various characters. I enjoyed the complex murder mystery, and made it through the straightforward romance/personal drama. I’ll seek out other Kendra Elliot’s audiobooks.

Impossible?

A seemingly impossible plot actually comes to life in this intriguingly suspense-filled story that combines love, compassion, drama, and family ties. A wonderful listen!

It's ok

This book was ok. I didn't read the others, but still was able to enjoy this book. Except there were times where the story felt forced and a little confusing. The romance was cute and I enjoyed it but the ending felt abrupt. Overall, it was ok.
