Publisher's Summary

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

Known is the fifth book in Bone Secrets, the multimillion-copy bestselling series.

After a brutal snowstorm in the Cascade Mountains, Chris Jacobs discovers two things he never expected to see: the charred shell of a cabin, and Gianna Trask and her sixteen-year-old daughter huddled in an SUV, having barely escaped from their burning vacation rental.

Still scarred from a childhood ordeal, Chris knows there’s something sinister about the scene - it’s the stench of burned flesh.

Forced to wait out the blizzard in their rescuer’s retreat, medical examiner Gianna Trask wonders if her hidden past has finally caught up with her. When a body is found in the destroyed cabin’s ashes and a forest ranger is brutally murdered, both Gianna and Chris must confront their secrets if they want to escape the violent threat lurking outside.

In the fifth book in the Bone Secrets series, Kendra Elliot leads listeners on a dangerous, twisting journey of two lives forever changed by a fiery snowstorm in the mountains.

Murders in the Oregon Cascades!

Kendra Elliot has written another excellent mystery/thriller set in western Oregon! Tanya Eby's narration is superb as always.

This novel is not the type of serial killer book that Elliot usually writes. While the antagonist kills several people it is an effort to reach a specific goal.

OK, but not quite as good as previous books

Audible. Also available to borrow ebook/audio via KU. This is one of those books that’s less expensive to buy the ebook & add-on the audio ($6.98 for both at the time of this review).

Chris Jacobs (introduced in book 3, Buried) is at his secluded cabin when he sees a neighboring cabin on fire. He finds Gianna Trask and her teen daughter, Violet, in their vehicle outside the remains. It becomes apparent that Gianna is being targeted and she and Chris (along with Michael & Jamie) work to discover why and keep her safe.

This was a nice HEA for Chris. Unfortunately, something was missing and it didn’t quite wow me the way some of the others did. The pacing was quite slow at times. Perhaps because in an effort to bring readers up to speed on events from Buried there was a LOT of info-dumping from that book. Parts were really good, but other parts felt overly confusing or forced. 3.5 stars.

Tanya Eby was great narrating this, though I do wish Luke Daniels could have been brought back since he narrated Buried.

A bone secret

What didn’t you like about Tanya Eby’s performance?

She is not a good actress for reading. She charging through the story as if she only has five minutes to get it done. No real emotion just reading! I cannot continue with this story. I don't understand why the author wouldn't recognize this.

Any additional comments?

Great thriller but nothing romantic..

As I got to 40% I sure was hoping there wasn’t going to be any sex in this book. I mean, there was not an ounce of attraction mentioned at ANY time, not a glance, not a thought, not a wish or hope, absolutely nothing. And that makes sex in a book soooo bad. I just hate when there’s nothing then that author plops a sex scene here or there, because “sex sells.” I’ve read 9 books of Ms. Elliot’s and even though they’re usually good mysteries they’re all alike when it comes to romance, or lack thereof. If authors can’t write sexual attraction they shouldn’t put sex in their books. Just leave it a murder mystery, suspense, thriller, whatever, and leave the sex OUT.

There wasn’t much feelings of anything between Gianna and Chris, and that was a bummer. This was a great thriller but not a romance at all.

The players were great: Violet (a really sweet teenager, believe it or not,) Michael, Jamie and Saul. But for the life of me I can’t even figure out why Owen was even in the book. He added nothing to it. Nothing! AND the bad guy? He was just a psychopathic killer. He really didn’t care who he killed and made up perfect excuses, to himself anyway, as to why they had to die.

As I said there was no romance, so no sex to speak of. There was swearing, mostly sh*t but the F-BOMB was used 33 times.

I got the book through KU and the Audible for only $1.99. Overall, it was a great deal.

As to the narrator: Ms. Eby is one of my favorite narrators, as far as voices go. But she really needs to work on her emotions when she reads, because she really doesn’t have any to speak of. However, as long as she can do a man’s voice I’ll wait for her to come up with the emotions.

Ready Set Action

This book wastes no time getting you drawn in. Within the first 5 minutes, I was hooked and didn't want to stop listening.
However, it is almost like the writer got tired at the end and just ran out of steam. I was very disappointed in the last few chapters.
I would recommend this book to others.

Thrilling

Action from the first sentence. Although not necessarily believable, it was enjoyable. I enjoyed this book.
