Publisher's Summary

The end is coming.

Logen Ninefingers might only have one more fight in him, but it’s going to be a big one. Battle rages across the North, the King of the Northmen still stands firm and there’s only one man who can top him. His oldest friend and his oldest enemy. It’s time for the Bloody-Nine to come home.

With too many masters and too little time, Superior Glokta is fighting a different kind of war - a secret struggle in which no-one is safe and no-one can be trusted. His days with a sword are far behind him. It’s a good thing blackmail, threats, and torture still work well enough.

Jezal dan Luthar has decided that winning glory is too painful, and turned his back on soldiering for a life with the woman he loves. But love can be painful too, and glory has a nasty habit of creeping up on someone.

While the King of the Union lies on his death bed, the peasants revolt and the nobles scramble to steal his crown. No-one believes that the shadow of war is falling across the very heart of the Union. The First of the Magi has a plan to save the world. But there are risks. There is no risk more terrible, after all, than to break the First Law.

So much payoff!!

This story is almost nothing but payoff and epic convergences of characters and the story threads. Only complaint I have is that the ending dragged out a bit too much, I think some of the points Abercrombie wanted to cover could have been done before or during the climax. I did like how grim the ending was though, that’s pretty refreshing from it being too happy for all characters.

Very disappointing ending

Great narrator, story was fantastic but the ending was just awful. Every single character has a depressing or unsatisfying outcome.

Best of the Three

This is the 3rd book in the First Law trilogy, and I will say it is the best. It is also the darkest and I’m sure the ending is controversial, but I liked it a lot.

Its simple and easy, not to complex but it ties a lot in from the first book.

If your into darker fantasy I’d say you’d like this novel.

Excellent story, too verbose

I unfortunately listened to the age of madness trilogy first by mistake. The story tellng is great, the narration is the best of any other audible book I’ve heard. My only gripe is that You can easily skip about 100 pages of descriptions ons of people places battles landscapes etc…. I would literally skip two minutes and they’re still describing the scene. I absolutely recommend these books. But you Will press the skip button, I promise!

Fantastic conclusion

Fantastic trilogy, I'm glad to have this in my library. Not a happy ending but not a sad one either.

An excellent finale to the trilogy!

This was an excellent finale to the trilogy. It wrapped up the plot threads and ended in an appropriate bittersweet note for most of the main characters.

One of the greatest stories told

The narrator is just as skilled as the author.
Each book gets better than the last.
Thoroughly disappointed that this story doesn’t continue.
Definitely going to read all of Joe’s other books now.
Excited to see what is Colin next.

Best performance

Amazing story brought to life by a top notch performance. All 3 books are worth a read. I bought extra credits because I didn’t want to wait for my monthly credit to come.
