Publisher's Summary

The fantastic prequel to The Good Daughter, the stunning new stand-alone from the number-one best-selling author of the Will Trent and Grant County series.

Protecting someone always comes at a cost.

At the age of 13, Charlie Quinn's childhood came to an abrupt and devastating end. Two men, with a grudge against her lawyer father, broke into Charlie's home - and after that shocking night, her world was never the same.

Now a lawyer herself, Charlie has made it her mission to defend those with no one else to turn to. So when Flora Faulkner, a motherless teen, begs for help, Charlie is reminded of her own past and is powerless to say no.

But honor student Flora is in far deeper trouble than Charlie could ever have anticipated. Soon she must ask herself: How far should she go to protect her client? And can she truly believe everything she is being told?

Excellent

Loved the author, loved the narration, loved the story.
I just happen to fall onto this book, thought I would give it a try and was happily surprised.
I am purchasing the next book to this story. I need to know more about Charlie!!!

So it just ends…

I enjoyed the storyline and the characters but when it ended I was like “what the heck?!” It seemed so abrupt, like it was just getting started. It definitely needs a more developed ending

Beware it has a cliffhanger

This narrator is new to me but was pleasantly pleased. Good job Kathleen Early.

Yes this story was short and was supposed to get you hooked so you buy the next one.

Not going to tell you about the cliffhanger as it might be part of the next book.
All I can say justice was not served. Heard another say the same in their review.

It was free and it might make me buy the next just to see if this is an on going saga.

Not long enough

My only criticism of this book is that it's not long enough. I wanted more.

good twist

This is a prequel to The Good Daughter.
I listened to this legal thriller on audible, narrator was decent, the story was good, decent twist.
I found myself not liking any of the characters in this one, I'm not sure why. I will definitely check out other Karen Slaughter books in the future.

Without end

I liked the book but felt it ended before the story was finished being told.

Quite lame.

I'm glad I have never spent any money on Karin Slaughters novels. Extreme overrated and her feminism input in to her work is definitely something to laugh about.

Boring story as usual. Narrator made it tolerable.

An unpredictable and gripping novella

Last Breath was a very enjoyable little read. The characters were compelling and I found myself immersed in their lives. Charlie is a likeable but interesting protagonist and the way in which she becomes embroiled in the small-town drama feels natural for her character.

The plot line itself was full of twists and kept me guessing. I hadn’t realised until after I’d finished the book that is was a prequel for The Good Daughter, and I’m planning on reading that after my experience with Last Breath.

The mains reasons I haven’t given Last Breath a higher rating are that it was so short that I felt I was only just getting into the heart of the action when it was starting to wind down, and that there wasn’t really a ‘wow factor’ or particularly thrilling moment for me. Despite that, I’d definitely recommend it for a quick and fun read. 8/10

Thrilling

I wish it was longer! Such a good story! Not so much a suspenseful read but a good twist and engaging throughout
