Story
Space is considered to be nothingness by many. But after all it is the background in which we see everything. It is against space and within the dimension of time that we experience everything we experience. Space and time are the two basic dimensions of our world but are uncommonly illusive. We can say they are our way of thinking of the universe as being a system of patterns. And our awe at the vastness of space may be man's astonishment at himself.

Deep down, most people think that happiness comes from having or doing something. Here, in Alan Watts’s groundbreaking third book (originally published in 1940), he offers a more challenging thesis: authentic happiness comes from embracing life as a whole in all its contradictions and paradoxes, an attitude that Watts calls the “way of acceptance.” Drawing on Eastern philosophy, Western mysticism, and analytic psychology, Watts demonstrates that happiness comes from accepting both the outer world around us and the inner world inside us,

Story
Alan Watts became famous first as a brilliant intellectual and then as a serious student of Buddhism and meditation. In the 1970s, the last years of his life, he retreated to a small, isolated cabin deep in the woods. He meditated every morning and then wrote. Still the Mind consists of several talks he gave in his later years, recorded and edited by his son, Mark Watts, and then published as a book. His speaking shows a maturity and wisdom that can only come after years of meditation.

Alan Watts discusses the Indian philosophy of the world as maya - under its multiple meanings as illusion, art, magic, creative power, measure, etc. Various techniques in the arts are used to illustrate the delicate and vibrational character of the material world, and to suggest a new approach to the old philosophy that the universe is "mind" only.

Alan Watts discusses the word tathata, which is translated from the Sanskrit as "suchness" or "thusness." The term is used in Mahayana Buddhism to suggest how things look to a Buddha, to one who has experienced enlightenment or liberation and is, therefore, called a Tathagata - one who comes (and goes) thus. Watts shares the sense of this nonsense in Buddhist philosophy, and its practical demonstration in Zen.

Story
At the root of human conflict is our fundamental misunderstanding of who we are. The illusion that we are isolated beings, unconnected to the rest of the universe, has led us to view the “outside” world with hostility, and has fueled our misuse of technology and our violent and hostile subjugation of the natural world. To help us understand that the self is in fact the root and ground of the universe, Alan Watts provides us with a much-needed answer to the problem of personal identity, distilling and adapting the Hindu philosophy of Vedanta.

The Bhagavad Gita is a gem so precious in India's spiritual treasury that many regard it not as a volume of sacred verse, but as a living manifestation of the Divine. In the summer of 1974, inside a balmy Boulder, Colorado, warehouse that served as a main hall of a fledgling Naropa Institute, some say a minor miracle occured: The reawakening of the Gita's living presence, as it unfolded in a series of wisdom teachings led by Ram Dass.

Story
Drawn from hundreds of hours of rare archival recordings from the personal collection of his son, Mark Watts, this program presents the essential message of Alan Watts. Here is Alan Watts, recorded live in seminars conducted in America and Japan, personally explaining how the Eastern view of man and his place in the world can be made meaningful to the contemporary Westerner.
Written by: Alan W. Watts
Publisher's Summary
The legendary author, speaker, and self-described "philosophical entertainer" Alan Watts delights us on audio with a wealth of illuminations into the spirit and art of meditation, spanning many traditions
"What would it be like to see all as one?" Alan Watts asks. "We hear about attaining great states of consciousness. But the only way to have a real transformation is to stop thinking about it - and simply experience it."
From the 1950s to the 1970s, this seminal teacher sparked the West's love for Eastern wisdom. Now, in these rare recorded gems, he inspires a new generation of inner explorers seeking deeper insights into meditation - its myriad forms, how they work, and what happens when we practice them.
On the "artless art" of contemplative practice, Watts explores Buddhist and yogic paths, Zen koans, Hindu mantra chanting, deep listening, effortless awareness, and more.
The key to all meditation, reflects Watts, is to give up trying to do it - to leave it be - and allow ourselves to be meditated by what is beyond our illusory self.
For those looking for teachings seldom explored in the current tide of books on mindfulness, Buddhism, and yoga, Watts is here to enthrall us - as original, humorous, and relevant today as ever.

The best
This collection is great! I have listened to many hours of this man’s talking and read much of his writing. As far as the available talks, seminars, classes, etc. go, this is a favorite. It is succinct and comprehensive and shows his great ability to inspire, enlighten, inform and entertain.

Great Lecture Glamourized by Modern Mystics
Alan Watts was great, the extra bird, rain, and other sounds put in by the publishers were so unnatural during the contemplative practice that it took away from listening to the actual sounds of the world that he talks about ie. The sounds of the road and the neighbourhood. The sounds of your home and reality. Too bad that a great lecture and guided meditation was ruined by the desire to escape reality rather than really accept reality as Alan Watts encourages

Time well spent
Always enjoy my time with Alan Watts. No matter how much I listen to I always discover something new.
This seems like individual lectures pieced unto a title which is fine other than foe some overlapping content but didn't hurt one bit to have it repeated.
The audio quality is lacking at times. We are spoiled in our modern times. Ironically, he mentions many such advances in some of the lectures.
Always recommend time with Mr Watts

Amazing
I wish I found Watts sooner. His wisdom and teachings are accessible to the western world. Sometimes I find it hard to grasp and digest information from India, China etc. Also, anything narrated by him is epic. He truly is a spiritual entertainer which is perfect for me, the over-thinker, who needs to lighten up at times.

Not specific to meditation
Just another collection of Alan Watts lectures. Not specific to meditation.
This was a disappointing purchase. I like Alan Watts and the lectures are interesting. However, this is not guide to starting or furthering a meditation practice. I was mislead by the chapter titles. They arbitrary to sell the book and not a representation of what topic is covered in the lecture for that chapter.
If you want a collection of lectures to further your curiosity into various areas Eastern philosophy, this is a good resource. But, that is not the topic that was represented by the seller.

Alan Watts and his genius are concentrated here
I started with “You’re It” and then “Out of Your Mind” and they are amazing and wonderful. I do not know if they primed me for “Leave It Be” but I almost feel like “Leave It Be” has all the best lessons, applicable Eastern teachings and information for a Westerner encapsulated and organized in a marvelous way. If I could only recommend one of these three, or have only one I could take onto a desert island, it would be “Leave It Be.”
