Publisher's Summary

The VIs' revolt succeeded.

The digital beings took over the game world and ejected millions of players while keeping a few thousand trapped inside as their prisoners.

In the real world, Oren Berman is recovering from the mental trauma of being trapped, tortured, and abruptly ejected. But the company has come to him, hat in hand, asking him to reenter the game world. With the entire NPC population arrayed against the trapped players, Oren and his clan of monsters might be their only hope.

Too much of the Same thing. Great voice acting.

The writing was too slow and plot too repetitive. There is nothing new here on book 4. more resource management and slow progression. No big moments unlike the other books.

Getting better and better as the series continues!

The first book although good was losing me a bit near the end. So glad I kept going with it as the books are getting better and better!

incredible music acting presentation sound design

The book story was great as usual. But the production has elevated this audible book to top tier levels. What a great experience. This is now my top tier standard for how an audible book should be.

to much

the extra music and sounds distract from the story at times. it would have been much better without all of the extra sounds.

Still good but...

Overall it's as good as the previous books but it's developing some issues.

1. Large narrative scenes at the expense of character development starts to get tedious.

2. The internal conflict between civilized and feral is getting old. After so much time you'd figure a mage of his caliber would sit down, do some meditation and find some balance. In the first few books he was constantly meditating, in fact it was a major plot point of his character. But by book 4 here he's a bit of a spiritual mess.

3. Vick needs better puns.

4. A note on performance. The sound fx are starting to get a wee bit excessive. They served as interesting punctuation in the first couple books but now they are starting to just sound silly in certain spots. It's not a big thing but it's one of those things you notice.

Honestly it's a good series and it's compelling but compared to the earlier books it's becoming more about repetitive battle monologuing and less of the mage innovation, character development and problem solving that drew me into the series in the first place. I'm hoping the next book is an improvement.

isekai excellence

true isekai excellence across the whole darn series! 9.5/10 would recommend. especially with the serious lack of new anime lately, this really filled the void

That on brought me back to the serie

Book 3 was really underwhelming for me. I really felt like the story dragging into something weird, and I really couldn't understand where the author was going with the storyline.
Let's just say that reading this book made me fall in love once again with the series.
The book is not perfect, for example, way too much statistic, I can't wait when someone will just skip those and just explain what was gained from the experience. And sometimes, the storyline was still not consistent.
Nevertheless, it's a win for me.

They ruined a perfectly good lit RPG

The first three books get a 10 out of 10 for me. I was loving the story, the world, and the characters. All the progress of becoming the most powerful clan in the game was for nothing. The competition aspect of becoming the most powerful player in the game is gone. Its almost like the writer started a new story, Im not even interested in finishing the series now!!!!

Weakest in the series this far.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my time with the book. But that is mostly due to it being the 4th in the series. compared to previous titles there is a lot of lazy writing. The main character will state something then a side character will echo those exact words. Adjectives are often reused making the entire book feel very repetitive.

From mediocre to moronic.

Should have just ended the series with the last book. The author clearly has no idea how to continue the plot organically so he just decided to throw in a Mary Sue to force things along. I'll be refunding this one and won't be listening to this author again.

Worst in the series

I can't even grasp what the author thought he was doing with this installment. It's pretty much just garbage.

He has trouble writing a compelling romantic subplot so let's focus on that heavily and add some very badly done paternal complications and make half the book about that.

Now let's go back to focusing on the split personality subplot but let's completely contradict ourself about what's going on with this issue, so not only is it tedious but is also inconsistent.

It's actually worse than just some weak decisions in how to handle some plotlines. Each major section of the book feels like a filler episode. There is like 10 minutes of plot development crammed between several hours of filler.

The added sound effects have ruined this series...

By chapter 4 i was so irritated that i stopped listening. what a shame, i really enjoyed the story up to this point. I have nearly 400 titles, and I've only asked for a refund 3 times. Here's #4....

Great book!

Great book as always kept me wanting more the whole time. I love how the author manages to get you hooked on every character they bring in.

SPOILER

One complaint would prob have to be this book really didn't go anywhere pretty much spent the book getting back into the game and building back up the village. I do feel the book is building up for something great but for now more waiting..

Best Kuznits book yet

I enjoy all of this guys stuff, but this is by far the best one yet and that is saying something. I’m voting Elliott Hays this November their voices were perfect. I would recommend this book to anyone, this author does not do the “adult stuff “ so you can have book on with the kids in the room. My kids really enjoy the books and pretend to be characters-yesterday my daughter was looking for feathers to make a headdress. Great book

Just another fight...

The book only really focused on a weird emotional relation that has to be told 200 times as well as fight scenes.

R green overlords do it again

The payoff is a little on the slow side but when he gets there it gets there this is a good arching book getting us ready for the next and last in the series of this arch And it does an amazing job of showing us the time dilation and how it affects the players and a monster's how it affects the whole civilization when the leaders are missing and there there is a A negative situation inside the video game both for the gain and the MP c's
