Publisher's Summary

Darrow returns as Pierce Brown’s New York Times bestselling Red Rising series continues in the thrilling sequel to Dark Age.

“The measure of a man is not the fear he sows in his enemies. It is the hope he gives his friends.”—Virginia au Augustus

The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains.

But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend.

The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Needed to keep multiple narrators

great story so far, as with all other installations in the series. However, though I love TGR narration, especially as Darrow, they should have kept multiple narrators for the different POV characters as in the last two audio productions. Feels off having Darrows voice narrating Lysanders thoughts, for example.

Hopfully, there will be a re-release with the other narrators.

Anyone But The Same Narrator

The story is amazing. I'm not finished yet but I had to stop and just write a review for feedback. The fans for this series are so loyal and it doesn't make sense that we have gone from one perspective in the first three books, to several in the final three (that have gotten us used to other characters being played by other voices) and just the final installment has but one narrator. With Tim Gerard Reynolds narrating everybody, it just feels like Darrow the whole time. The same Darrow who took us through only his point of view for 5 books now is the one we are hearing from. It's like a pavlovian trigger at this point. TGR and Darrow are inseparable to us and we would have been satisfied with literally anybody else narrating these other roles. We had to deal with a new Lyria, a new Lysander, no big deal, what's another new narrator? It makes Lysander feel way too warm and familiar to be actively reminding myself constantly that I am coming from Lysander's perspective. It's a shame to finish such a tremendous series with such inconsistency. Surprisingly, I would have stuck it out for a longer wait of this being released if it meant getting a proper cast. I hope the fans feedback can have more influence on Pierce Brown's decisions moving forward with his other works.

Love the book, miss the voices.

Book is amazing, Tim sounds great but a bit off. I don’t think it was fair to us to have him do all 4 characters, specially after suck great casting was done for iron gold dark age

Missing the other voice actors

I am enjoying this very much but I do miss the other voices in the story, Particularly Lyria and Lysander. Virginia's actor was so well cast... I haven't gotten all the way through to hear if she has a part. Anyway, I would be all for a do over with the full cast. I really liked Lysander from book 4. I agree that TGR's voice sounds different... It's missing its low end. Anyway. I should read the books in print, because I do love the story, it's just always been an audio experience for me. Thanks for releasing this book though PB, and not making us suffer like other authors who won't be named!

Hot Garbage

This series has devolved into a self-referential mess that reads as if the author spent most of their writing time perusing a thesaurus to give credence to their Greco-Roman idolatry. I regret reading past book 3…

Gory Hell Pierce

I don't even know where to begin. This ride was unreal, it somehow manages to outdo Dark Age in almost every way. Pierce has stepped his game up again.

Outstanding

The only downside is that I now need to wait for book 7. One of the best of the series.

Best of the later books

In many ways a return to the first trilogy, and much more hopeful than Iron Gold and Dark Age. Excellent choice having TGR narrate the whole book, I much preferred it to the multiple narrators of the last 2 books. Here’s hoping the next book arrives soon!

Wow wow wow wow!!!! AMAZING!

Amazing amazing writing, gripping performance… WOW! This is a non-stop thrill ride with an incredibly satisfying arc to the story. I had planned to draw it out and savour it since I love this series but I could not I greedily devoured this audio book in a few days… Perfection couldn’t have asked for more.
