Polly Waterford is recovering from a toxic relationship. Unable to afford their flat, she has to move miles away from everyone, to a sleepy little seaside resort in Cornwall, where she lives alone above an abandoned shop. And so Polly takes out her frustrations on her favorite hobby: making bread.

But what was previously a weekend diversion suddenly becomes far more important as she pours her emotions into kneading and pounding the dough, and each loaf becomes better and better. With nuts and seeds, olives and chorizo, with local honey (courtesy of local beekeeper, Huckle), and with reserves of determination and creativity Polly never knew she had, she bakes and bakes and bakes...and people start to hear about it. Sometimes bread really is life...and Polly is about to reclaim hers.

I very much enjoyed the story, it’s light and entertaining. The narrator threw me off a bit though, since the main character is supposed to be 32 years old but the narrator sounds quite a bit older, and the voices she makes for the male characters all sound the same and are off putting.
I would still recommend it, overall very charming story and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

Loved it! Warmed my heart and put me in a great mood. Loved the finding a new positive life in the midst of everything falling apart . Great listen but do agree that the narrator did sound a lot older than the main character

A comfort read

The reader’s voice is not suited for this book. The male characters were raspy and over the top. The voice did not match the age of the protagonist. It was really difficult to listen to. However once you get over that, the story was sweet. Would have been so much more enjoyable with a better reader.

Had no idea this was a series of three books and this was the first. I listened to the 2nd and 3rd books first not knowing. Enjoyed finding out the history of the other two and really enjoyed the series. The narration could be better for this one and the 2nd book. But I enjoyed the story all the same.

Storyline is good but the performances made it sound like it was set in the 1960s and the men’s voices were off.
