About this listen

The adventures continue for Laura Ingalls and her family as they leave their little house in the Big Woods of Wisconsin and set out for Kansas. They travel for many days in their covered wagon until they find the best spot to build their little house on the prairie. Soon they are planting and plowing, hunting wild ducks and turkeys, and gathering grass for their cows. Sometimes pioneer life is hard, but Laura and her folks are always busy and happy in their new little house.

Ms. Wilder writes beautiful stories and this children's book is no exception. It's well paced, the characters are beautifully developed and the story is interesting. This audiobook kept my kids happy and quiet on a long car ride, so you know its good!

I have two small issues with the performance. First, the narrator insists on pronouncing "greased" as "grrr-eeeez-duh". How do you take a one syllable word and stretch it to three? It just about dries me crazy. Second, the fiddle music often appears at awkward moments; the style and cadence of it just don't work with that part of the story. But again, that's a personal preference.

Overall a great book.
