Anger is a universal human experience. For many of us, it is the single greatest challenge in every area of our lives. We have been taught that anger itself is a sin and should be avoided at all costs. However, anger is also understood to be 'nature's way' of preparing man to respond in times of danger. How then do we go about bringing this volatile emotion under the Lordship of Jesus Christ? Gary Chapman gives us the perfect tool to answer this and many other questions in The Other Side of Love.

Sound advice, but too much “God”
Solid advice but as an atheist, I found the CONSTANT reference to God and bible quotes very irritating. I had to push through those parts.

Not the usual Gary Chapman gem
This turned out to be a catch all for marriage problems and 80% of the book didn't apply to my situation. While control issues, addiction Ann's mental and physical abuse are important, it just wasn't relevant for my purposes. Disappointing.

encouragement through another chance
I am trying to give my husband, who has declared himself an alcoholic and who has a history of emotional abuse, another chance. This book has been so encouraging and comforting to me. It is full of relevant, applicable stories and situations. It contains helpful suggestions and some concrete advice. I am not religious at all, but the references to God (and the few references to religious doctrines) in this book do not offend me or bother me at all. I almost didn't buy this book Because I had read it was too religious. But I found that I was able to interpret those parts in a way that suit me personally, and still got so much out of the book.

NO MENTION OF RELIGION IN DETAILS!
This book is not what it seems. I tend to keep my personal beliefs to myself, and if you like religion to be a foundation in your marriage, that's awesome. That said, the information on this page does NOT mention that this is a Christian related book. I don't need to ask 'god' for marriage advice, when it is not part of my marriage, nor my life. This book is so misleading, and it's downright criminal that Audibile lets it slide that there is no mention of religion in a marital help book.

A must read
Listening to this book was indeed difficult and took months to finally make myself read it! First time I was not having this book thinking I know what I want and I'm just done!! Second time was even harder harder because it hit close to home, a little more than I wanted. Was emotional through the first few chapters. Might want to have your journal and Bible handy and serious prayer time. After that, I stepped away from this book and let go and let God! I have been in a lot of trials and tribulations, this book has given me information I should of had when I knew the issues started. I will again read and take more notes and just apply where needed as I heal and make this work for my marriage. Happy reading!!

Superficial, but Sparks Good Conversation
Primarily opinion and experience based, with little research to back it up. Typical of Gary Chapman, but when discussing "desperate marriages" I would have liked better therapeutic approaches and practical solutions to offer clients. Not a very meaty book, but good for sparking conversations.
