We can not raise a happy child if we are constantly screaming threats at them. No parent sets out to hurt their child, but this type of parenting does just that. To raise a happy child that wants to behave, you need to retrain yourself first. You need to change the way you think and react to their behavior. You need to understand your triggers and heal yourself. Only then you can begin to heal your relationship with your children.

Instead of being merely the receiver of the parents' psychological and spiritual legacy, children function as ushers of the parents' development. Parents unwittingly pass on an inheritance of psychological pain and emotional shallowness. To handle the behavior that results, traditional books on parenting abound with clever techniques for control and quick fixes for dysfunction. In Dr. Shefali Tsabary's conscious approach to parenting, however, children serve as mirrors of their parents' forgotten self.

Description
“A wise and fresh approach to mindful parenting.” (Tara Brach, author of Radical Acceptance)
A kinder, more compassionate world starts with kind and compassionate kids. In Raising Good Humans, you’ll find powerful and practical strategies to break free from “reactive parenting” habits and raise kind, cooperative, and confident kids.
Whether you’re running late for school, trying to get your child to eat their vegetables, or dealing with an epic meltdown in the checkout line at a grocery store - being a parent is hard work! And, as parents, many of us react in times of stress without thinking - often by yelling. But what if, instead of always reacting on autopilot, you could respond thoughtfully in those moments, keep your cool, and get from A to B on time and in one piece?
With this book, you’ll find powerful mindfulness skills for calming your own stress response when difficult emotions arise. You’ll also discover strategies for cultivating respectful communication, effective conflict resolution, and reflective listening. In the process, you’ll learn to examine your own unhelpful patterns and ingrained reactions that reflect the generational habits shaped by your parents, so you can break the cycle and respond to your children in more skillful ways.
When children experience a parent reacting with kindness and patience, they learn to act with kindness as well - thereby altering generational patterns for a kinder, more compassionate future. With this essential guide, you’ll see how changing your own “autopilot reactions” can create a lasting positive impact, not just for your kids, but for generations to come.
An essential, must-listen for all parents - now more than ever.
“To raise the children we hope to raise, we have to learn to become the person we hoped to be…. This wonderful book will help you handle the ride.” (KJ Dell’Antonia, author of How to Be a Happier Parent)
“Hunter Clarke-Fields shares her wisdom and personal experience to help parents create peaceful families.” (Joanna Faber and Julie King, coauthors of How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen)

Applicable summary of several key parenting books
I recognized the advice from other parenting books I had heard and read. I like how practically this book is laid out and I think I'll pick up a hard copy when I come across one. I liked the author's writing prompts. I did not like the narration. While the narrator's voice is pleasant, her tone ups and downs make it hard to know when sentences end. It made difficult for me to follow the flow unless my attention was 100% on listening.

Very helpful for a FTM
I am navigating parenthood with my 7 month old son, and I found this book to be very helpful in shaping who I want to be as a mother and how I'd like to raise my son. I was raised in an authoritarian household where I was disciplined often and it left me resentful and less likely to be honest with my parents. I want to do better for my son. I will listen to this book again in a year or 2 as he gets older to reinforce these ideas

It’s pretty good!
If you have read anything on mindfulness previously you might find yourself hearing familiar theories.
I’m familiar with a lot of the material here but it was nice to hear it in a different way.
The last half is solutions focused which I appreciated.
I came here for answers to help a reactive child.
I think I learned some things in order to keep situations as calm as possible while effectively resolving the issue.

No content, repetitive and BORING!!!!!!!!
What a disappointment. Filled with questions, judgements, generalities and NEVER gets to the "solutions." Unending prattle about disappointments and speculations regarding emotions and reactions. Such a WASTE of time and even the measley $6, which I doubt is refundable. Count how many times the word mindful is said in one chapter only. The constant reference to what we are going to learn is tedious. The use of the word you and we is offensive. She doesn't know the reader and there is NO we!

Not into Mindfulness? Then it’s not for you
I read a lot of negative reviews of this book being boring, repetitive, a waste of money. I couldn’t disagree more. I was enthralled. This book combines Headspace-style mindfulness meditation with Nonviolent communication and How to Talk so Kids will Listen into one package. It reminds you to be kind to yourself when you inevitably lose it on your kids and try to take it as a learning opportunity. It teaches you the value to believing in neuroplasticity and continuing to work on yourself.
