I ordered the second book on Kindle just because I could not wait. sooo good. when it comes out in audible, I will be ordering and listening again. Now I have to patiently wait for the third book.....

This was a bit of a slower start, and it took a while for the mysteries to start revealing themselves and the story to really pull me in, but when it did, I dove right in and refused to come up for air.
I listened to the audiobook and could not turn it off. The narrators were so great and fit the characters perfectly. I already have a bit of a soft spot for Corvin King, but I absolutely loved him narrating this book.
The setting fit the story perfectly, and I love a bit of darkness mixed with old money and academia. The characters were interesting and had enough personality to stand out.
Nova is a likable character overall. She hasn’t had the easiest life and then is just handed abundance and family she didn’t know existed. I could understand most of her choices, but a few definitely stood out as odd to me.
Like how Nova was made out to be a very skeptical person. Early on, she even says, "You may think I'm being stubborn, but in my world being smart keeps me alive," yet she spends much of the story simply accepting everything happening around her. Her newly discovered grandparents, who she initially seems excited to meet, barely become part of the story, and she rarely questions them despite all the secrets surrounding her family.
Lucien is, objectively speaking, kind of a dick. He's arrogant, manipulative, and seems to make it his personal mission to antagonize absolutely everyone around him. In other words, exactly the kind of character I know I'm going to love. He's infuriating in the best possible way, and every time he showed up, I wanted to know what he was going to do next.
Then there's Knox. Sweet, broken, emotionally unavailable Knox. Reading this book honestly felt like having an angel and a devil sitting on my shoulders... except the angel and devil apparently share everything, which somehow makes the whole situation even more complicated. Every time I found myself leaning toward one twin, the other would show up and completely derail my thought process.
This story is built on layers of mystery, and every answer only seemed to raise three more questions. As the story progressed, the focus narrowed almost entirely to Nova, Lucien, and Knox, so some of the supporting characters faded into the background more than I expected. It wasn't enough to hurt my enjoyment, but I did find myself wondering what happened to a few of them.
Honestly, this whole book felt like one giant tease, and I wasn't even mad about it. Every chapter layered on another mystery, another secret, or another question, and just when it felt like everything was finally about to come together... it ended on a giant cliffhanger. I genuinely think the story could have been a little longer because I wasn't ready for it to stop there.
Despite some frustrations with Nova, I had an absolute blast with this one. The mystery kept me hooked, the banter was fantastic, and Lucien and Knox completely stole the show. I'll definitely be picking up the next book because I have way too many questions that need answering. 4.25 stars
