Publisher's Summary

Few construction companies fail because of poor building practice; they fail because of poor pricing practice. To succeed in construction, you have to price your jobs to cover all labor, material, and overhead expenses, pay yourself a decent salary, and make a profit that will keep your company thriving. A large part of that is knowing how to figure the correct markup for your business.

But calculating markup is only part of the picture. If you're going to beat the odds and stay in business profitably, you also need to know how to write good contracts, manage your crews, work with subcontractors, and collect on your work. You'll find tried-and-tested formulas here to guarantee profits, with step-by-step instructions and easy-to-follow examples to help you learn how to operate your business successfully. Information is included on how to access the forms and charts used in this book. The principles outlined here apply to all construction-related businesses.

In this hands-on manual, Michael Stone, a highly successful contractor, lecturer, and construction consultant, provides the keys to a profitable business. He covers the business basics of running a construction company, whether you're a general or specialty contractor working in remodeling, new construction, or commercial work.

Absolutely essential

This is not only a book that’s going to tell you how to price your jobs, but it is an essential guide to how to run a contracting business. There is lots of things that I have heard before in this book but when Micheal lays them down to you. He says it in a wise and insightful way that is often not the place in construction nowadays.
I would tell anyone who is struggling with their business to purchase this audiobook. It is an amazing tool.
This book tells the absolute truth about running a contracting business. If you are not ready to face up to those truths, then go get a job working for someone this is honesty manifest.

Game Changer

This book should be a mandatory pre requisite to anyone who wants to start a construction business. I think if clients read this too it would give them a better understanding of the kind of things contractors have to contend with everyday. Truly an amazing book that I will refer back to very often.

A must read for contractors

Very informative book! Definately recommend for any type of construction contracting business out there. Some sections are hard to follow sometimes when he's throwing numbers around but it's not that bad.

A Must Read Book for Every Contractor

I first read this book after attending one of Michael's seminars in Toronto almost 20 years ago. Most contractors have a difficult time making money in construction, and Michael provides a very easy and understandable formula to correct this problem. He also provides many other principals that help operate a profitable and meaningful construction business. Honestly, I've read countless books on construction over the years, and hundreds, if not thousands, of other construction related articles. I consider Michael the best of them all. He helped us in the very beginning and set us on a path to where we are today, which is a fantastic company with an awesome network of people, and a business that consistently makes a profit year after year!

A must read for EVERY contractor

Michael conveys his experience and knowledge of the construction industry in every word. Unlike many other books out there, he doesn’t include any fluff, and instead wrote a cover to cover “how-to” book for any contractor, regardless of their stage in the process. Also, all forms and materials referenced in the audiobook are free at the mentioned URL in the book, in almost every chapter, so if you are having a hard time understanding the numbers because “you don’t have the figure’s”, you probably aren’t listening well enough! 11/10
