Publisher's Summary

The New York Times best-selling author of Every Dark Corner returns to Baltimore, where a father-daughter reunion puts innocent victims in the sights of a stone-cold killer.

Baltimore PI Clay Maynard routinely locates missing children for clients, but his own daughter - stolen by his ex-wife - has eluded him for years. Until she turns up right under his nose....

Since she was a child, Taylor Dawson believed the lie her mother told her - that her father was a monster. But now she has a chance to get to know the real Clay while doing real work as an equine therapist, which includes helping two girls whose mother was brutally murdered. She might even find something deeper with her boss' handsome son, Ford Elkhart, who is dealing with his own demons. But just as Taylor feels her life opening up to new family, work, and friends, a danger lurks in the darkness - one that will show Taylor the face of true evil.

Another great suspense from Karen Rose....

This book is part of the Baltimore series, there is also a Cincinnati, a Philadelphia and a Minneapolis series and sometimes characters are shared. If you've never heard anything by Karen Rose you can still start here. Each of her books can be read as a stand alone because she does give some basic background on each character. It's amazing how she keeps track of ALL of her characters, there are many that jump from one storyline to another but each new book picks up with a new character getting involved with an existing one.
This book has Clay Maynard reuniting with his daughter. In previous books he's been searching for her, she is now 23 years old. There's drama, suspense, murder and as always for this author at least one or two graphic love scenes. I usually fast forward (sorry Ms. Rose) but I love her mystery writing, I am not big on romance!
Anyway this is an excellent book.
Marguerite Gavin does a great job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Every book in these series are oustanding

After eye surgery I decided to try an audiobook. I found these series by Karen Rose and have acquired all of them so far.
This one brings most of our favourite characters together in a new take if suspense and drama and courage.
Ford & Taylor's encounters are riveting.
Thank you Karen Rose .

Unnerving as usual

Taylor Dawson is working as an intern and equine therapist at Daphne’s horse farm, Healing Hearts, but her real agenda is to check out Clay Maynard, her biological father who she only recently learned wasn’t the monster her mother made him out to be. She’s also making headway with one of the kids in her therapy who hasn’t spoken since she witnessed her mother’s murder...unbeknownst to the killer.

The stories that involve children always unnerve me and this one definitely set me on edge. The scenes involving the children, Jazzie and Janie Jarvis, were just chilling. It was balanced, though, by Clay's reunion with his daughter, Sienna, now known as Taylor. I’ve long awaited this story and I reveled in every part of their discovery. Loved every minute of it. Even Taylor and Ford’s instant attraction worked.

Marguerite Gavin did a great job narrating the story, as usual. She captured so many voices distinctively. The villain in this story was particularly nasty and she nailed him. I was glad to return to Baltimore, which is my favorite of the cities in this series because of the character connections and their sense of family. And, for once, the body count didn’t spin out of control!

Good, not great

Not the author's best. It's a bit dark. Performance was great. It feels like a therapist wrote it.

We've All Had 'Em

This author never disappoints. She is an absolute queen of the romantic suspense genre, and this is another excellent example of her work. The plot is tightly woven with several interconnected sub-plots. The ensemble cast of characters remains a pure force of literary brilliance as they work with and against each other to create another fascinating tale that takes the reader on a mind-boggling journey at break-neck speed.

This is satisfaction in all its elements. Ford and Taylor's romance is a sweet slow burn that feels just right. Clay's years of searching finally have the HEA that all romance readers keep turning pages for, and several other characters experience some great growth as well. All of this is necessary to offset some real nastiness that occurs in the course of the story. Not everything is wine and roses in this complex tale. But the story itself...is awesome.

Didn’t enjoy as much

Too many characters to keep up with and pretty cheesy in most of the book.
