Publisher's Summary

Zorian Kazinski has all the time in the world to get stronger, and he plans on taking full advantage of it.

A teenage mage of humble birth and slightly above-average skill, Zorian is attending his third year of education at Cyoria's magical academy. A driven and quiet young man, he is consumed by a desire to ensure his own future and free himself of the influence of his family, resenting the Kazinskis for favoring his brothers over him. Consequently, Zorian has no time for pointless distractions, much less other people's problems.

As it happens, though, time is something he is about to get plenty of.

On the eve of Cyoria's annual summer festival, Zorian is murdered, then abruptly brought back to the beginning of the month, just before he was about to take the train to school. Finding himself trapped in a time loop with no clear end or exit, he will have to look both within and without to unravel the mystery set before him. He does have to unravel it, too, because the loop clearly wasn’t made for his sake, and in a world of magic even a time traveler isn't safe from those who wish him ill.

Fortunately for Zorian, repetition is the mother of learning….

WOW!...Glad i risked that credit!!!!

I've been scrapping the bottom of the fantasy barrel for a while now, trying to find a good book after listening to almost everything audible has to offer. I finally STRUCK GOLD. This was a fantastic book and im eagerly waiting on the next one.

The story itself isn't particularly original. The protagonist finds himself stuck in a time loop and decides to take advantage of the extra time while also trying to figuring out the reason behind said loop. Think 'Groundhog Day' or 'Re:Zero' for those who watch anime. But this book shines in areas that i personally adore the MOST in fantasy books. The character development is great. The main character is not blatantly overpowered but he is still pretty competent, he's timid but he's not a coward, he's not a vagina magnet but he's not a blushing clueless introvert either. The Magic system is *CHEFF KISS* fantastic. The protagonist is in a scholastic environment so most of the book is expository on how spells, alchemy and other magic systems work. That shit is like DRUGS to me, i LOVE that. If your a Fan of the "Spell Monger" series or "Art of The Adept" you'll like the work the author did in this book. It was all explained in ways that made it all seem relevant to the plot and growth to the character and not just there to fill a word count.

HOWEVER. I can understand how a reader might be fatigued by all the....*learning*...and want the scenario to move forward a bit faster. If your not a "Brandon Sanderson" fan, or prefer a more streamlined story it might not be for you. It would be a tough listen if i didn't give the book at least 90% of my attention. Since the protag is in a loop, it was easy to miss what he does 'differently' since i was listening to him have the same convo with someone for the 3rd time and might space out.

Still i loved this listen. I really hope i see more from this guy and SOON. =5/5 safe purchase.

p.s: You might see some other people say the same old shit like "the narrator ruined it for me". This guy is juggling like 6 different accents in the book and at least goes through the effort of making everyone sound distinct. Hes no Nick Podehl but he did a good job. I can forgive the guy if 2 of the 10 different voices he does sound annoying. If people think he's a bad narrator then they really haven't listened to enough books yet. LOL

18 hours of never ending time loop

I bought the book as many reviews were glowing. I would have appreciated a bit more honesty. If you like time travel and never ending time loops (think 18 hours of groundhog day but at the end you're still not free) then this is the book for you. Sadly, I am not such a person.

The story has potential, but I am so tired of the time loop, I doubt I will bother to finish the series. In my view it's not worth the money, unless maybe all the books were bundled for one credit, or it was part of the audible plus books.

Amazing In Every Way

Wow! The world building is incredible and thorough, the magic system feels alive, the characters are animated and captivating (thanks to both the author and the narrator)... I could go on gushing about the book but truthfully if you want a good in-depth review I suggest checking out the one by Xavier. Couldn't have written a better one myself.

very mundane

you have a basic idea but the story telling is too simplistic and you are trying to draw a simple story out into several books instead of one. it get monotanous not good storytelling.

long time coming

i listened to slightly less than what made up book one way back when it was a podcast. i couldnt get back into it once released as a book because i told myself that i found Jack V's voice to be nagging. im not sure what made me try it again last week but it makes me feel the fool. i obviously listened to it in the first place because i enioyed it and now i have a completed series to binge.

what a dummy i am. absolutely loved it. thats my bad for not giving it more than 2 minutes.

Amazing world-building, engaging magic systems, and enjoyable characters. A definite recommendation for any fantasy enjoyer!

The narration is a bit of an acquired taste, but well worth the sluggish start.

The story is excellent, the voice actor, an acquired taste.

The choice of accents and voices for some characters were very grating to me, but some did grow on me with time... as in the last hour or two of the book.

If you don't mind it, or are lucky enough to even like it, I strongly recommend this book. I would hate missed out on a really enjoyable story otherwise.

I'm currently downloading the second book!

Excellent Story

I found the voice acting a bit weak, with the overreliance on accents, some of which were a bit hard to listen to. Kirielle's wake up routine was pretty touch to hear again and again. If you can put up with that though it's a great story. I love Zorian as a character. He's flawed but he grows a lot.

Really entertaining

I held off on this book for months due to some reviews. But it was recently in a 2 for 1 credit sale so I gave it a try and I’m SO happy I did. This was really entertaining and I finished it in about a day.

I personally think being able to learn everything I wanted in a time loop sounds like a fun. But I like how he tried to out think everyone. It was a nice change of pace to have a main character that thought before he acted most of the time. Also there was still a ton of action, fighting and combat magic.

Fantastic new world

I love the world the author has created. The storytelling roped me in, and I loved following the main character's progress.
