Publisher's Summary

Boomstick. Samurai bat. Motorcycle leather. And the will to live among the unliving. Augustus Berry lives a day-to-day existence comprised of waking up, getting drunk, and preparing for the inevitable day when "they" will come up the side of his mountain and penetrate his fortress. Living on the outskirts of a city and scavenging for whatever supplies remain after civilization died two years ago, Gus knows that every time he goes down into undead suburbia could be his last.

Not only does he face a corpse-infested urban hell, human scavengers, and unending loneliness, but now a new mystery has risen.... The undead are disappearing from the streets. A force is gathering, beyond the mountain man's wildest nightmares, even more relentless and terrifying than the roaming tides of dead flesh. And it's preparing to hunt. Mountain Man has been optioned for film. Contains graphic language and scenes of violence.

Zombie action in the Maritimes

Well I really enjoyed this book. I found myself listening for 2 or 3 hours at a time, fully engulfed by the story. It has a fairly standard outline, for a zombie tale, but there are some original bits. The tension and action build nicely. You can feel it coming. The violence is graphic and described in gruesome detail. The narrator is superb. He jumps from character to character with unbelievable consistency and speed. I loved the fact that it took place in Nova Scotia and yet it’s not a slave to the locale. The story will appeal to all zombie and action/horror fans. I did, however, enjoy the low key Canadianisms and helps to maintain the contemporary zombie story adage that this “turn,” or whatever you want to call it, could take place anywhere, anytime, and what would YOU do? One more comment and I have to repeat how good the narrator is, but he’s definitely not a Canadian. Because there was one word he pronounced incorrectly. Only ONE word. That was his only flaw but after about the tenth time it became very annoying. But I got over it. I would absolutely recommend this book to all lovers of this genre.

Caught Me. . . Hook, Line, and Sinker!

Gus and Scott set up a safe house during this episode, feeling the safest and most hopeful for a possible future since the beginning of the apocalypse. Will it last. . .? Being a late comer to this series, I actually heard the free download of "The Hospital" first. It was helpful for me to know about Gus's prior experience with Alice the nurse and what exactly what happened to him before this book, as it explained a lot of pivotal information about his character development. The narration by R.C. Bray is beyond stellar! He especially shined after Gus experienced an unexpected event, causing to him to speak much differently for most of the book. He did such a phenomenal job I could almost feel how it must have been for poor Gus. Mr. Bray is so incredibly talented, and the perfect narrator for complimenting the above par level of sapience Mr. Blackmore always delivers!

An OK book

The start is slow. Pretty hard to empathize with the main character in the beginning of the book. Would make more sense to first explain his abuse. Now he comes across not giving a s. But he does clearly care from the get go. It's a pretty short book. 8hours and the story really starts to pick up only half way in. So it feels like it would be better to bundle more of the series in one title. I felt a bit ripped off. Won't be reading the rest of the series.

GREAT BOOK. Held my attention the entire time!

Story line was engaging with unexpected twists. I don't think there was a low point that I had to push through in the entire story.

Awesome Zombie Book

Love this book! Bought all books, get the book that has all 3 books, I wasted money and credits but wasn't sure I'd like and had to get all 3 separate. Ended up I loved them. If you like zombies this series is awesome.

Everything I want in a zombie series

Love the story. It's a humble and realistic imagining of what life would be like after an outbreak. Love the obsession with tp, that would be me. It can be a little bro-ie but not over poweringly. The anecdotal information on characters is nice and not belabored. The voice acting is on point.

Awesome, I want more

What made the experience of listening to Mountain Man the most enjoyable?

I loved the humour and some of the great one liners. The well meaning but flawed character of the 'Gus' really brings a ago old story and well used plot to life!

The narrator is brillant. In fact I will buy stories now simply because of R C Bray's narration!

What did you like best about this story?

The drunken humour and one liners

Which character – as performed by R. C. Bray – was your favorite?

Gus

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed several times, and wished I could sit down with the main characters and share a drink with them :-)
