Publisher's Summary

When Reece arrives at Cathy's door aged 7 years old, he has already passed through the hands of four different carers in four weeks. As the details of his short life emerge, it becomes clear that to help him, Cathy will face her biggest challenge yet.

The latest title from the author of Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller Damaged.

Reece is the last of six siblings to be fostered. Having been in care for four months his aggressive and disruptive behaviour has seen him passed from carer to carer. Although only 7, he has been excluded from school, and bites people so often that his mother calls him 'Sharky'.

Cathy wants to find the answers for Reece's distressing behaviour, but he has been sworn to secrecy by his mother, and will not tell them anything. As the social worker prepares for the final hearing, he finds five different files on Reece's family, and is incredulous that he had not been removed from them as a baby. When the darkest of family secrets is revealed to Cathy, Reece's behaviour suddenly starts to make sense, and together they can begin to rebuild his life.

Any additional comments?

Couldn't stop listening!

It was impossible to unplug from the author's care and dedication, as well as her specific behavior-improving techniques, as she helped troubled Reese make his way into his future. Reese's difficult journey was far more compelling than the terrible secrets that explain his behavior.

The book's great hope for the future of severely abused children, who are fighting a world that has treated them terribly, makes it a wonderful audible listen. The book did also leave behind considerable frustration with generationally dysfunctional adults whose children are washed up into the system only after much damage has already been done.

The book also makes it clear that, unfortunately, Reese's deeply disturbing secrets are not uniquely unusual among foster care children. I learned a great deal listening to this book.

great story

As all of Cathy's stories, it holds your attention & leaves you wanting more. I appreciate all of the books that Cathy has written. I was glad to see that Reese got a forever family. I really expected the Social Services to terminate the contact when Tracy kept upsetting Reese. All in all though it turned out in a happy ending. I'm going to read the update, because I want to know what happened to Tracy's last baby..... but that'll be another story........
